Chart of the Day: Bitcoin vs. S&P

coin stackIf I’d bought $1,000 worth of Bitcoin back in 2010 I’d be having a very different kind of summer holiday this year (actually, a different kind of year altogether).

That’s the main conclusion I reached on seeing the chart below, which was helpfully tweeted by Robeco’s Jeroen Blokland over the weekend.

He compares a $1,000 Bitcoin purchase with an investment in the S&P 500 beginning in June 2010.

While the $1,000 stock investment has ticked up marginally between then and now, the Bitcoin line is stunning – that $1,000 would be inching toward US$100,000,000.

Anyone with the foresight to invest in Bitcoin in 2010 would be very happy today.
