Ronald T. Abraham
Ron is a principal in the Canadian Asset Consulting Services Group of Towers Perrin and heads the Western practice from the Calgary office. He provides advice to clients in a wide variety of areas relating to the effective investment management of pension and non-pension assets. In his consulting role, Ron assists clients in the areas of investment policy, asset allocation, manager structure, manager selection and performance monitoring. He is a chartered financial analyst and a past president of the Calgary Society of Financial Analysts.
Lori Bak
Lori is the publisher of the Canadian Investment Review and associate publisher of Benefits Canada and Avantages at Rogers Media, Healthcare and Financial Publishing. She has worked at Rogers Media as a business journalist and editor for 16 years, most recently as editorial director of Rogers’ financial publications and past editor of Benefits Canada. Lori is an active member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM).
Ken Bancroft
Ken is director of investments for the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund Board. He implemented the Fund's investment structure with internal and external specialist managers for Canadian, US and EAFE equity mandates plus Canadian fixed income. Previously, Ken worked at the Great-West Life Assurance Company where he provided investment counsel to pension clients and served on the executive of the Winnipeg Society of Financial Analysts. He currently serves on the investment committee at the University of Alberta and is a director of PIAC.
Dexton Blackstock
Dexton is the vice-president and director of State Street Global Markets Canada Inc. He is responsible for the marketing and sales of transition management services to both fund sponsors and investment consultants. He is also involved in managing the daily trading activities of the brokerage and assisting in the analysis of the investment portfolios. Prior to joining State Street he was part of the institutional fixed income sales and trading team at a major broker/dealer and CT Securities, where he managed the fixed income department for the discount brokerage division. Dexton holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Calgary and is a chartered financial analyst.
Fred Blackwell
Fred is a portfolio manager, fixed income at the Workers' Compensation Board, British Columbia.
Laurence Booth
Laurence is the CIT chair in structured finance and the finance area coordinator at the J. L. Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Since 1978 he has taught graduate courses and short executive programs in business finance, international financial management, mergers and acquisitions, financial management and theory, money and foreign exchange markets and business valuation. His research activity is primarily in domestic and international corporate finance, where he has published extensively in leading academic journals on cost of capital, corporate financing issues and risk management. He completed his undergraduate work at the London School of Economics, and his masters and doctorate in finance at Indiana University.
Mike Brooks
Mike graduated from Heriot-Watt University with an Honours BSc. in actuarial mathematics and statistics in 1991. In 1996 Mike qualified as a fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries. He joined Baillie Gifford in May 2000 as head of portfolio risk and performance analysis. Prior to that, Mike was head of quantitative research at Aegon Asset Management. He is currently the chairman of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries Working Party on Portfolio Risk.
Michael Butera
Michael is director, external portfolios for the pension investment division at Canada Post Corporation. In this role he is involved in virtually all areas of the fund’s investment activities. His responsibilities include investment policy and asset allocation, manager selection and structure and monitoring fund performance. Prior to joining Canada Post, Michael was an asset management consultant for over thirteen years. He is a graduate of Brock University and has participated in a number of investment conferences.
Caroline Cakebread
Caroline is the editor of the Canadian Investment Review. She joined Rogers Media in May 2001. From 1998 to 2001, she was manager of investor education at the Toronto Stock Exchange. Caroline is an active member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) as part of the Strategic Communications Committee. She is also a member of the Education and Outreach Committee of Women in Capital Markets. Caroline holds an MA and a PhD in English from the University of Birmingham and a BA from the University of Toronto.
Andrew Campbell
Andrew is chief executive officer of Nunavut Trust, and a board member and treasurer of Tradex Management Inc. and the Tradex Equity Fund. Previously, he was the manager of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Pension Fund and held various senior planning and financial positions at CMHC. He has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, where he specialized in finance and institutional investment management.
Julie Cays
Julie has been director, external managers at Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) since September 2001. Before that she worked at CIBC for 16 years in various corporate treasury roles, most recently as director, pension investments. Julie has a BA in economics from the University of Waterloo and received her CFA designation in 1989. Julie is active in the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) as a member of both the corporate governance and member services committees. She is also chair of the Girl Guides of Canada’s portfolio review committee.
Jamie Colliver
Jamie is partner at Integra Capital Management where he heads Integra Global Advisors and is responsible for the institutional marketing and business development of that division. Integra Global Advisors is a joint venture between Integra and several world class investment management firms including Analytic Investors. With over 27 years experience in the financial services industry, Jamie was a founding partner, president and head of sales and distribution for a Canadian mutual fund company. Prior to that he was managing director and global head of fixed income sales and marketing for Scotia Capital Markets in Toronto. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and has numerous industry designations.
Jean-François Courville
Jean-François is managing director of State Street Global Markets and principal officer at State Street Bank and Trust Company - Canada Branch. He is also a managing director of State Street Associates. He is responsible for the financial intermediation and e-finance activities in Canada, including foreign exchange trading and sales, money-market trading, balance sheet management, as well as currency advisory and the Global Link e-finance activities. Before joining State Street in 1996, he was a money market, currency and currency derivative trader, and currency strategist with a major Canadian bank in Montreal and England. Jean-Francois holds a bachelor of commerce in finance and international business from McGill University and has a CFA designation.
Stefan Cowell
Stefan is the senior portfolio analyst at the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta, assisting in the management of its $4 billion investment portfolio. He is also the president of the Edmonton Society of Financial Analysts. Stefan holds the CFA designation and is currently completing his MBA from Queen's University.
Oswald D'Mello
Oswald is director of pension funds at Nortel Networks. In this role, he oversees Nortel’s pension fund assets on a global basis and manages a fixed income portfolio for the Canadian pension fund. Prior to his current position, Oswald held various senior positions at Nortel and was a trust officer with Montreal Trust Company.
Robert A. Daigneault
Robert is a director with the institutional client services team of CDP Capital. In this role, he is responsible for relationship management in eastern Canada and the United States. Prior to joining CDP Capital in 2001, he was with Computershare Trust Company (previously Montreal Trust) as assistant vice-president responsible for client relationships. Over the last 10 years, he has worked extensively with a diverse institutional client base in areas such as custody services, DC plan administration, shareholder services and employee stock purchase and stock option plans. Robert holds a B.Sc. in mathematics from the University of Montreal.
Harindra de Silva
Harindra is president and a member of the board of directors of Analytic Investors, a specialist, quantitative investment management firm that is a partner on the Integra Global Advisors platform. He is responsible for the firm's strategic direction and the ongoing development of its investment processes. As the senior member of the firm's investment team, Harindra also serves as co-manager of the U.S. Core Equity and Market Neutral strategies. He has authored several articles and studies on finance related topics, including stock market anomalies, market volatility and asset valuation. He received a PhD in finance from the University of California, Irvine. He holds a BS in mechanical engineering, an MBA in finance and an MS in economic forecasting and is a designated CFA.
James Donegan
James is a senior portfolio manager, external funds, at OMERS. Externally managed assets represent about 20 percent of the total OMERS fund, which employs 19 managers in 22 different mandates. Prior to joining OMERS in 1994, James spent eight years with various Canadian investment dealers as an economist and portfolio strategist. In addition to a BA and MA in economics, he is a CFA and a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts. James is also a member of the FTSE Americas Practitioners Committee that overseas the compliance of index construction for the FTSE All World-Americas indices.
Pierre Drolet
Pierre is currently coordinator of pension fund investments for Domtar Inc., a portfolio of approximately $800 million. Prior to this assignment, he was managing the bond portfolio for the pension fund. Before joining Domtar in 1996, Pierre worked for STCUM (Montréal Transit Corporation) and for the Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec where he participated in the development and implementation of VAR models and worked as an analyst in the fixed income department. Pierre has a master of finance from École des Hautes Études Commerciales in Montréal.
Michel Bruce Dubois
Michel is currently head of finance and pension funds investments at Ville de Montréal. Prior to the municipal merger that took place in January 2002, he was with the Communauté urbaine de Montréal where he was responsible for long-term borrowing operations and pension fund investments. Previously, Michel was syndication manager for the international division of the National Bank of Canada. He has an MBA from the Université Paris IX Dauphine.
Cathy Duquette
Cathy is currently the pension fund financial controller at Allied Domecq. With the company since 1989, she has also held the positions of senior treasury analyst and treasury analyst. Prior to 1989, Cathy worked in a public accounting firm for 10 years and at a finance company for five. She has obtained both the CCM and CGA designations.
Philip Falls
Philip is currently assistant director of investments at IWA – Forest Industry Pension and Ltd. Plans. In this role he works with the director to manage the investments of the $2.1 billion multi-employer pension plan. Previously, he was vice-president and treasurer of investment management at The Loewen Group Inc. He has also held positions at William M. Mercer and Connor, Clark and Lunn. Philip’s professional affiliations include PIAC, AIMR and the Vancouver Society of Financial Analysts. He has an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and is a CFA.
Bill Forbes
Bill has been at Queen's University since 1991. Currently, he is director, pensions, investments and insurance. He is also a member of the Financial Services Tribunal. Before coming to Queen's, he was a vice-president in the Toronto Office of Towers Perrin, working with clients on a variety of pension matters. He is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a CFA.
Mario Galizia
Mario is a principal and actuary in the Toronto office of Towers Perrin with over 20 years experience in the pension field. He specializes in the design of retirement programs and assisting plan sponsors in establishing funding, expensing and investment policies. He also has significant experience in supplemental retirement arrangements, mergers and acquisitions involving pension plans, designing early retirement programs and issues related to international transfers. Mario obtained a bachelor of science in actuarial science from the University of Toronto, and is a fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
Serge Germain
Serge is the general director for the University of Sherbrooke Pension Plan where he is responsible for the daily operational issues relating to the management of the plan and for monitoring the portfolio managers with respect to the investment policy. He has more than 3 years of experience in the pension industry. Serge has an undergraduate degree in finance, he is a CFA and has also completed the Pension Plan Administrator Certificate offered by Humber College in Toronto.
Frank Giffen
Frank is managing director of the Alternative Asset Group at Scotia Capital. He leads a team that is responsible for the development and implementation of structured products for hedge funds.
Marven Grant
Marven is currently the assistant director of Corporate Services and City Treasurer for the City of Fredericton. He has been the chief financial officer for the City for the past 10 years and has worked for the City for 33 years. Marven is also one of the board administrators of the City Of Fredericton Pension Fund, a position he has held for the past 10 years. He has a diploma from Dalhousie University with a focus in local government.
Paul Halpern
Paul is a professor of finance and the Toronto Stock Exchange chair in capital markets at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He is chair of the advisory board of the Canadian Investment Review and associate director of the Capital Markets Institute at the University of Toronto. Paul has published research and applied papers for both academic and practitioner journals. He has also published a corporate finance textbook, Canadian Managerial Finance and is the editor of Financing Growth in Canada which is an examination of Canadian capital markets. Paul’s research interests are in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, corporate governance and capital markets.
Jeff Horbal
Jeff is vice-president, institutional investments at Fidelity Retirement Services, headquartered in Toronto. In this capacity, Jeff oversees sales and marketing, data and fund analysis, and client service for Fidelity’s defined benefit disciplines. He joined Fidelity in 1998 with 15 years of industry experience in institutional equity trading, corporate finance, personal financial planning and mutual funds. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor of commerce degree, and has completed several executive and investment management courses.
Jim Hoult
Jim is the senior financial analyst in the law and pension investments department of Stelco Inc. After a varied career in accounting, Jim shifted disciplines and took on his new role in May, 2001. Jim joined Stelco in February, 1979, having obtained a bachelor of commerce in accountancy at Concordia University in Montreal.
Christopher Huckle
Chris is client service manager, institutional clients department, Baillie Gifford. In this role, his responsibilities involve providing client service to the company’s North American institutional clients. This includes reporting on portfolio performance and communicating current investment views, as well as ensuring that clients’ portfolios are managed in accordance with their requirements. Previously he worked in the Channel Islands for ING Barings. Chris has an MA in psychology, an M.Sc. in neural computation and a PhD in cognitive science. He is also a chartered accountant.
Eric Innes
Eric is chairman and chief investment officer for YMG Capital Management. The first 20 years of his investment career was spent trading bonds and managing bond portfolios for McLeod Young Weir and Royal Trust. In 1983 Eric and his partner founded YMG, which currently manages over $14 billion in investment portfolios for pension plans, mutual funds and other financial institutions. Eric oversees YMG's asset allocation and the firm's fixed income strategies, as well as directing marketing and client service activities. He was educated at Bishop University and graduated with an honours BA in economics in 1971.
Pierre F. Jetté
Pierre is associate vice-president, risk and return management at CDP Capital. In his current role, he is responsible for management of CDP Capital’s global risk portfolio. Before joining CDP Capital as a director in 2000, Pierre was vice-president, quantitative strategies, at Elantis, where he worked for five years. Pierre has published several articles on investment and is a member of the Society of Quantitative Analysts. He has a BSc. in mathematics and a master of business administration from McGill University and is a chartered financial analyst.
Larry Johnson
Larry is director of pension investments for Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. and is responsible for managing C$3 billion in retirement plan assets, primarily in Canada, but also in the U.S. and the U.K. He assumed this position in mid-1999 and has been employed by Abitibi and predecessor companies for over 22 years, primarily in strategic planning, marketing, and financial analysis roles. Larry is an American and holds certified public accountant and certified management accountant designations.
Michael Keenan
Michael Keenan is the director of policy and research for Bimcor Inc., a Canadian pension investment manager. Prior to joining Bimcor in January 2001, Michael spent 10 years at the federal Department of Finance, principally in the Financial Markets Division where he was involved in government financing, international management, treasury risk management as well as domestic debt management.
Gordon Kosokowsky
Gordon joined CDP Capital in 2001, as director for the Toronto office. He is responsible for new business and relationship management for the company. In doing so, he corresponds with clients in Canada and the United States. Prior to joining CDP Capital he held senior business development and relationship management positions at Royal Trust. With over 12 years of experience, his background also includes international trade finance and foreign exchange. Gordon is a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management.
Lawrence Kryzanowski
Lawrence is a professor and Ned Goodman Chair in investment finance at the John Molson School of Business in Montreal. He is an active educator and consultant in financial services, including commercial credit, wealth and portfolio management, investment banking, and the regulation of financial markets, institutions and participants. He is the (co-)author of over 80 refereed articles, an editor of the Multinational Finance Journal and an editorial board member of Canadian Investment Review. He is the first recipient of the Annual OSFI Award for Excellence in Research (2000) and numerous other awards. Lawrence has a BA from the University of Calgary and a PhD from the University of British Columbia.
Claire Kyle
Claire is senior manager of the Bank of Montreal’s pension fund. Prior to her current position, she worked in both the United States and Canada in a variety of fields including private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory, economics and strategy, and pension fund management. She holds the CFA designation and is presently the chairperson of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC).
Andrew Lapkin
Andrew is the chief operating officer of Measurisk where he is responsible for managing the client services group and for ensuring that the company’s product development is meeting client needs. Andrew spent four years at Bankers Trust as vice-president and as product manager of their large custodial reporting system. Prior to that, he was a senior consultant at Anderson Consulting. Andrew holds an MBA in finance and management from Columbia University and a BA in economics from Lafayette College.
Tristram S. Lett
Tris is vice-president, quantitative investment products at YMG Capital Management. Previously, he worked at the Ontario Treasury where he was responsible for policy development of the CPP for the province. In 1989, Tris was elected to the board of governors of the Toronto Futures Exchange, and in 1990 became the chair. He was also a member of the TSE’s Index Committee. Tris is a frequent speaker at pension and investment conferences on quantitative and risk management topics and he is a member of the Canadian Investment Review's advisory board. He has his honours BA in economics from York University, and a master of economics from the London School of Economics.
David S. Linds
David is senior vice-president, sales and marketing at CIBC Mellon. He is a member of the company’s executive committee and through the development, communication and execution of strategic business plans he manages CIBC Mellon’s business development and national marketing activities for the pension trust and custody services industry. David maintains an active role in many industry associations. He has over 23 years financial services experience, including 15 years with CIBC World Markets and CIBC Mellon. David is also the chair of the 2002 ACPM annual conference.

John Mackinnon
John is currently the director, pension investment finance and administration with the new Canada Post Pension Fund. Since 1985 he has also worked in Ottawa as CFO for the Civil Service Co-Operative Credit Society and director of corporate finance in the treasury of Canada Post. Previously, John had worked in treasury and corporate finance at Imperial Oil and corporate and government banking at the Bank of Montreal. John is the founding president of TMAC and is a member of FEI and PIAC.
Ravi Mantha
Ravi is an institutional portfolio manager in the Boston-based Structured Investments Group and is responsible for managing institutional portfolios in the Select discipline. Prior to joining Fidelity, Ravi worked for Pyrford International as portfolio manager and member of the investment strategy committee. He was also a research analyst and member of the global equity team at Frank Russell Company in London. He holds a BA from the University of Puget Sound and is a chartered financial analyst. Ravi is a member of the Boston Securities Analysts Society.
Josephine Marks
Josephine is senior vice-president of pensions and group investments at the Maritime Life Assurance Company. Her responsibilities include overall accountability for the pension and institutional investment lines of business as well as asset-liability management responsibilities for Maritime Life’s $9 billion of General Funds. Josephine joined Maritime Life in 2001 with 20 years of experience in the pensions and investment industry at Sun Life of Canada and William M. Mercer. Her previous responsibilities included marketing, finance, client service, portfolio management and investment strategy. Josephine is a FCIA and a CFA.
Richard McAloney
Richard is the CEO of the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations Pension Plan. Previously he was responsible for all investment, pension benefit, and treasury operations for the Province of Nova Scotia. He is also a director of the Pension Investment Association of Canada, director of the Association of Canadian Pension Management, and he was a founding director of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Richard holds the chartered financial analyst, certified internal auditor, and chartered accountant designations.
Gayle McDade
Gayle is manager of debt and investment for the City of Regina where she is responsible for the investment of the City’s assets as well as of the City’s pension plans. The pension plan assets are approximately $700 million in defined benefit plans. Gayle has been in this role and employed with the City for the last four years. Prior to that she worked as an investment manager with Crown Life Investment Management Inc. in Regina. Gayle received her bachelor of administration from the University of Regina and is a CFA.
Shawn Menard
Shawn is currently the managing director of Russell/Mellon Analytical Services in Canada. In this role, he works with plan sponsors and money managers to understand the structural characteristics of their portfolios by providing them with risk management services and investment manager analysis. Prior to this, he held the position of director of business development and senior investment analyst. Shawn earned a CFA designation in 1997 and is a member of the Global Association of Risk Management Professionals and the Association of Investment Management and Research.
Tricia Moore
Tricia joined Rogers Media last year as conference manager. She brings to her position more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality and retail industries with an emphasis on special events planning, marketing and customer service evaluation. She is a graduate of Queen’s University.
Roger Moss
Roger is vice-president at Integra Capital Management where he is responsible for marketing and servicing for the Quebec and Ottawa regions. Integra Capital manages funds for DB and DC plans, private client and also offers in-house record keeping. Integra Global Advisors is a joint venture with several world class investment management firms including Analytic Investors. Roger has 18 years experience in the investment industry in private client, investment research and portfolio management. He is a graduate of Loyola College and is a FCSI.
Gary Ostoich
Gary is a partner in the derivatives and structured products group of the law firm of McMillan Binch. His practice focuses on domestic and off-shore structured financings/investment funds with particular emphasis on all aspects of the over-the-counter and exchange traded derivatives markets. He acts on behalf of financial institutions, domestic and foreign investment dealers, governments, large corporations, pension funds, commodity pools and hedge funds. Gary sits on the advisory board of a number of hedge funds in the marketplace. He has written numerous articles in the derivatives and foreign exchange area and has spoken at various conferences relating to hedge funds, derivatives and corporate finance.
Paul E. Owens
Paul is plan manager and chief executive officer for the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Pension Plan. Prior to joining the CAAT Pension Plan in 1995, he spent 13 years at The Bank of Nova Scotia where, as director of pensions, he was responsible for the design and administration of the bank’s worldwide pension programs. Paul has made presentations, written articles, and has taught extensively in the areas of pensions and benefit design, administration and governance. He has an MBA from Queen’s University.
Bill Pacula
Bill joined the institutional clients department of Baillie Gifford in 2001 and is part of the firm's business development team based in New York. He graduated with a BA in philosophy from Washington College in 1972 and has 25 years experience working with pension and other tax-exempt fund sponsors in North America.
Sébastien Page
Sébastien is currently a senior associate at State Street Associates. He joined the company as a research analyst for the development of portfolio tools and investment strategies. Previously, he completed two internships at the Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec on asset allocation. He won the first prize in the Montreal Society of Financial Analyst contest for his research on Value At Risk. He also won honourable mention in the Young Professional of the Year category at the 2002 Quebec Financial Industry Gala. Sébastien holds an M.Sc. in finance from Sherbrooke University and is currently pursuing a CFA designation.
Hal Parker
Hal is the investment officer of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Treasury. In this role he acts as administrator to the external investment managers that invest the funds of the Province's MasterTrust which includes the pension assets of the Island's civil servants, teachers and members of the legislative assembly. He also directly invests the funds of the province's Sinking Fund. A native of the province, he has three degrees including an MBA from Dalhousie University.
Tom Phelps
Tom recently moved, after 32 years, from Noranda Inc. to become chief economist at Brascan Financial Corporation. In this new role, he will continue to advise Noranda in the investment management of its $1 billion Canadian pension plans. Before assuming his pension responsibilities in 1990 he was involved with a wide range of treasury and corporate finance functions.

Dr. Bill Rentz
Bill has been the chairman of the pension plan committee of the Board of Governors of the University of Ottawa since 1989. He is also an associate professor of finance in the school of management at the University of Ottawa. He is co-author of Canadian Financial Management and has published in many different journals. His latest publication is “Can the Next Enron Happen to Your Clients,” Advisor’s Edge, March 2002. He holds a BS in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an AM and PhD in economics from the University of Rochester.
André Robitaille
André is executive director of the University of Quebec's Pension Fund, with responsibility for overseeing the investment of the pension fund and the administration of the benefits. Mike Rodgers
Mike is a research analyst with the New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation. His responsibilities include structured product analysis, risk management, and investment policy research. He previously held the position of senior quantitative analyst at Investors Group Investment Management in Winnipeg. He holds an MA in economics from Simon Fraser University and is a CFA charterholder.
David Scoon
David is a director of institutional sales at Fidelity Canada. He is responsible for introducing Canadian pension plans, foundations and endowments to Fidelity’s investment products. David has been in the financial services industry throughout his career. He has worked in senior positions in banking, corporate finance, investment banking and investment management. Prior to joining Fidelity he was with TD Asset Management and Frank Russell. David earned his BA from McMaster University and his MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
David Service
David is principal in the Toronto office of Towers Perrin, specializing in asset management consultation. He assists clients in a variety of aspects of asset management, including asset allocation and financial management, pension governance reviews, manager structure analysis, selection of investment managers and monitoring of manager performance. David is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries.
William Shadwick
Bill is currently the managing director of the Finance Development Centre in London. In this role he has made contributions in the modelling of derivative prices and risk sensitivities and, together with his partners, to the creation of new portfolio performance measurement tools. Previously he was the founding executive director of the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences in Toronto. He has also held research positions at the Institute for Advanced Study, the NASA Ames Research Centre and was a professor at the universities of Toronto and Waterloo.
Tracy Smith
Tracy is assistant editor, conferences for the healthcare and financial division of Rogers Media. Her responsibilities include the management of conference materials and development of the conference web sites. Tracy has an honours BA from McMaster University and a post-graduate diploma in journalism new media from Sheridan College.
Colin Spinney
Colin is the treasurer of Dalhousie University. His responsibilities include the management of the University’s endowment and pension fund investment portfolios, and the management and review of endowment spending policies and budgets. Prior to joining Dalhousie University, Colin was the assistant treasurer of a telecommunications company where he was responsible for cash and debt management, investments, banking relations, leasing administration and investor relations. Colin holds a MBA from Dalhousie University and is a CMA.
Gary Stewart
Gary is vice-president and senior portfolio manager, North American fixed income at Elliott and Page. He is responsible for the fixed income team which manages all discretionary North American fixed income accounts. Gary’s previous investment experience includes 14 years with ING Group managing fixed-income assets in both Canada and the U.S. He also spent six years in the position of vice-president and senior portfolio manager at ING Investment Management. Gary’s educational background includes a BA from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from York University. He is also a chartered financial analyst.
Terri Troy
Terri is manager of pension investments for the Royal Bank and Royal Trust pension plans. Her responsibilities include asset mix decisions, investment manager structures and manager monitoring, performance measurement and attribution, risk analytics, compliance monitoring, governance and the implementation of a defined contribution pension plan.
Elizabeth Vandenberg
Elizabeth is the manager, portfolio analytics for the Investment Division, Department of Finance, Province of Nova Scotia. She is responsible for performance measurement and analytics for the Province's Teachers and Superannuation pension funds and is also responsible for the fund's external investment managers. Previously she was with the Department of Finance, Province of New Brunswick where she was responsible for the Province's long term financing and outstanding debt. Elizabeth completed a BA at Dalhousie University, an MA at the University of Alberta and is a CFA charterholder.
Blake Walker
Blake is the director, pension investments with the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) in Edmonton. LAPP is a $9 billion multi-sector defined benefit plan with over 130,000 members. Blake manages the investment manager structure, provides policy advice and ongoing support to the investment committee and board of trustees on investment issues. He is a former vice-president and treasurer of the Federal Farm Credit Corporation and director, Investments and Liability Management with the Department of Finance, province of Saskatchewan. Blake is a CMA, a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a CFA charterholder.
Michael Walsh
Mike joined Elliott and Page in 1998 as vice-president, institutional investments. Throughout his more than 20 years of diverse portfolio management experience, he has focused on the investment needs of Canadian pension and endowment funds. At Elliott and Page his mandate includes client relations, product development and quality control of all portfolio management services. He holds an MBA, finance and a BA in economics from the University of Toronto.
Alan White
Alan is the Peter L. Mitchelson / SIT Investment Associates Foundation Professor of Investment Strategy at the Rotman School. His research is principally in the area of derivative securities: their pricing and use by financial institutions for risk management. He has published many articles on these topics in practitioner and academic journals. He is well known for his work (with John Hull) on the Hull-White interest rate model, which won the Nikko-LOR award. Recently his research has focused on market risk and credit risk issues. He has consulted in these areas for many financial institutions in North America, Europe and Japan.
Mark White
Mark is currently vice-president, investment research at the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations Pension Plan.
Ke Hua Zhou
Ke Hua is with the New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation of Fredericton. As a research analyst his responsibilities include investment policy and risk analyses. Ke Hua has a MBA degree, is a CFA charterholder and a member of AIMR.
Catalin Zimbresteanu
Catalin has worked for several years in risk management and related areas. His prior roles have included vice-president of risk management with Société Générale, senior consultant in capital markets with Ernst & Young and chief financial engineer with the Montreal Exchange.
Mike Zych
Mike is managing director of Capital Markets Group at Scotia Capital. He is responsible for a team of individuals focused on providing derivative product solutions to investor accounts. He has a bachelor of commerce degree from McMaster University, a master of business administration from the University of Toronto and is a chartered financial analyst.
