The following is the list of speakers at the Global Investment Conference. Except for the dinner speaker, Allan Fotheringham, all speakers are listed in order as they appear in the agenda.

 
> K. Geert Rouwenhorst
Geert is professor of finance at the Yale School of Management and deputy director of the International Center for Finance at Yale, which he joined after receiving his PhD from the University of Rochester. Geert teaches courses in valuation and investment, international finance, and empirical research in finance. His research interests include the trade-off between risk and return in developed and emerging stock markets. His recent work examines global real estate markets, the pricing of international mutual funds, and the history of financial innovation. His articles have been published in The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Financial Economics, The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and The Journal of Portfolio Management.
> Dinner Speaker: Allan Fotheringham

Allan Fotheringham has been writing a column for 33 of his 47 years in journalism, first with the Vancouver Sun and later with Southam News, The Financial Post and Sun Media.

Fotheringham was a columnist in Washington for five years, covering the Reagan and Bush administrations and has travelled extensively in the United States, missing only four states.

He has travelled widely in some 86 countries, including the Soviet Union, China and Africa. Attempting to avoid work, he now lives, more or less permanently, in Toronto counting the days until he can retire to Positano, Italy. At present, Fotheringham is a columnist for Maclean's magazine (where he has written on the last page for 26 years) and has also, just recently joined The Globe And Mail. Fotheringham was the 1964 winner of the Southam Fellowship in Journalism, the 1980 winner of the National Magazine Award for Humour, and the first winner of the National Newspaper Award for column-writing. In 1999, he was inducted into the Canadian News Hall of Fame along with Conrad Black. He has published six books, the latest being Fotheringham's Fictionary of Facts and Follies.

> Graciela L. Kaminsky
Graciela is currently a professor of economics and international affairs at George Washington University. Prior to this, she was an assistant professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego and a staff economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She has been a consultant and visiting scholar at the IMF, the World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank. She has also been a consultant to the Banco de EspaƱa and the Korean Center for International Finance and a visiting scholar to the Banco de Mexico and the Institute of International Economics, University of Stockholm. Her areas of research have included financial crises, contagion, herding behavior and the effects of financial liberalization. Graciela received her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
> Steven Pisarkiewicz
Steven is chief investment officer of structured equity services at AllianceBernstein. Previously, he was managing director of financial advisors, managing director institutional services and senior portfolio manager for U.S. equities, all at AllianceBernstein. Prior to joining Bernstein, he was vice-president and senior consultant with SEI Corporation. Steven co-authored "Quantitative Tools in Equity Valuation and Portfolio Management: Applying the DDM," which appeared in the textbook Applied Equity Valuation. He has a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Missouri and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
> Bill Chinery
Bill is managing director at Barclays Global Investors where he is responsible for business development and client relationship activities for Canada. Prior to joining BGI, Bill spent 6 years with a quantitative management firm where he was involved in product development and portfolio management of various strategies. Prior to this role, he was the national practice leader and worldwide partner with the investment consulting practice of William M. Mercer. Professionally, Bill is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and fellow of the Society of Actuaries and is also a frequent speaker and author on various pension benefit and investment issues. He holds a bachelor of mathematics in actuarial science from the University of Waterloo.
> Kate Munday
Kate is the head of the global emerging markets equity team and chair of the global emerging policy team at Baring Asset Management. Most recently she has been responsible for the Indian market and the Baring Peacock Fund, an open-ended investment company investing in India. Prior to that, Kate worked with the Latin America equity team in Boston. Kate joined Baring Asset Management in early 1993 from HD International where she was a member of the Europe equity team. Kate previously worked with Kleinwort Benson Investment Management. She has an honours BA in history from Manchester University.
> Jeffrey S. Thomas
Jeffrey is a partner at the law offices of Borden Ladner Gervais where he practices international trade law. He is also chair of the firm's international trade law practice group. Jeffrey has extensive experience in advising clients engaged in or affected by international trade negotiations, including NAFTA and the WTO and similar experience in the areas of foreign investment and private international law concerning investment including advice relating to the Investment Canada Act. He has a bachelor of laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and a master of laws from the University of Toronto. Jeffrey is the co-author of The New Rules of Global Trade: A Guide to the World Trade Organization.
> John Chisholm
John is executive vice-president and co-chief investment officer at Acadian Asset Management. Along with his key portfolio management role, he is responsible for the firm's quantitative valuation techniques, statistical models, and related areas. John has been extensively involved not only in the management of global equities for Acadian client portfolios, but also in the development and refinement of Acadian's stock, industry, and country selection models. He is a graduate of the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
> Chuck Bastyr
Chuck is vice-president and portfolio manager of international equities at Altamira. He is also head of Altamira's global investment team and lead manager for a number of Altamira's funds that include, the Pooled EAFE Fund, Altamira Global Diversified Fund, and the Altamira European Equity Fund. He is also the co-manager of the Altamira Global Value Fund. Chuck has 13 years of investment experience and has been with Altamira since 1994. He holds undergraduate degrees from Austin Community College and the University of Minnesota. He also has an MBA from Edinburgh University and is a chartered financial analyst charterholder.
> Dr. Stanley W. Hamilton - Moderator
Stan is the Philip H. White professor of urban land economics, and senior associate dean, faculty of commerce and business administration, University of British Columbia. He has had extensive teaching and research experience in the area of real estate analysis and valuation. His current research interests include the role of real estate in portfolios and pension governance and administration. Stan is presently the director of the Bureau of Asset Management (UBC) and the chair of the board of trustees of the UBC Faculty Pension Plan. He is also a trustee of CREIT, a diversified real estate investment trust in Canada. Stan is the author of several books, monographs and numerous articles relating to real estate markets, real estate valuation and financing.
> Susan G. Ezrati - Panelist
Susan is chief investment officer, GM Subsidiaries. She joined General Motors Asset Management (GMAM) in 1988. Currently, Susan has overall responsibility for investment matters relating to four of GMAM's principal clients which include GM Canada and Xerox Canada Inc. Over her 13-year career with GMAM, Susan's responsibilities have included managing investment programs for the international asset classes, setting strategy for the international investment unit, co-managing the Canadian pension plans and advising on numerous overseas pension plans. Susan joined the GM Corporation as an economist in 1982 from Rutgers University where she was an instructor of economics. She holds a PhD from Columbia University in economics, an MA from the University of Denver in international relations and a BA from Pomona College. Susan was awarded a CFA designation in 1992.
> Richard McAloney - Panelist
Richard is the CEO of the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations Pension Plan. Previously he was responsible for all investment, pension benefit, and treasury operations for the Province of Nova Scotia. He is also a director of the Pension Investment Association of Canada, director of the Association of Canadian Pension Management, and he was a founding director of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Richard holds the chartered financial analyst, certified internal auditor, and chartered accountant designations.
> Russ Wermers
Russ is an assistant professor of finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park. His research interests include the measurement and attribution of the performance of pension fund and mutual fund managers. He also studies the investment behavior of these managers, as well as the impact of their trades on stock markets. His papers have been published in The American Economic Review, The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and The Journal of Finance. His article on mutual fund and stock prices (Journal of Finance, 1999) won the New York Stock Exchange Award for the best paper on equity trading in 1995. Russ also consults for the pension fund and mutual fund industries.
> Karen Luprypa
Karen is the director of product management for RBC Global Services' benchmark investment analytics group. As a senior member of the investment analytics management team, she is responsible for the strategic planning and development of portfolio management products and services, including performance measurement, risk management, compliance monitoring, and commission recapture. Previously, she managed the investment program for Royal Bank and Royal Trust Pension Plans' $4 billion dollars in pension assets. She has also gained experience in currency risk management and foreign currency options trading.
> Perry J. Vieth
Perry is director of fixed income investments at PanAgora Asset Management. In this role he directs the research and management of the firm's fixed income strategies and oversees the currency management needs of clients who invest in global securities. As a member of PanAgora's investment committee, he also provides valuable input into the role that fixed income securities and currencies play in investment portfolios. Prior to joining PanAgora, Perry was a senior vice-president at Fleet Investment Advisors in Boston where he managed fixed income portfolios for institutional clients. He holds a degree in accounting from Marquette University and a Juris Doctor from University of Notre Dame Law School.
> Andrew F. Barth
Andy is research director, president and director of Capital International Research, Inc., in addition to being a director of Capital Guardian Trust Company and Capital Research and Management Company. His research responsibilities include nonbank financial service companies, government-sponsored enterprises, and mortgage and financial insurance companies. He also chairs the CGTC investment committee's U.S. equity subcommittee. Andy joined Capital in 1985 after receiving his MBA from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business.
> Maurice Levi
Since receiving his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago, Maurice has taught at several leading universities, and has published books and research articles in a wide range of scholarly journals. He has held teaching positions at MIT, the University of California, Berkeley, the London Business School, and the University of New South Wales. He has written five books in economics and international finance, several of which have been translated into a number of languages. His research has appeared in The American Economic Review, The Journal of Political Economy, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Monetary Economics, and more than a dozen other scholarly journals.
