> Rick Abbott
Rick is director of investments for the Employee Benefits Board of the City of Winnipeg. He oversees management of the Civic Employees Pension Plan, the Winnipeg Police Pension Plan, group life insurance plans and various other pools of assets exceeding $4 billion. He achieved his CFA designation in 1981 and is a past president of the Winnipeg Society of Financial Analysts.

John is a senior vice-president at AllianceBernstein. In this role he is responsible for business development and client servicing activities in Canada. Prior to this, John held various senior positions at T.A.L. Investment Council, Sun Life and the Bank of Montreal. He has a degree in finance from Saint Mary’s University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He is a chartered financial analyst and a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts.
> Robert Baillie
Robert is regional vice-president, institutional and investor services at RBC Global Services. He is responsible for the growth and development of custody and related services, as well as relationship management of the company’s strategic clients throughout Canada. Before taking on the responsibility for national sales and relationship management, Robert was responsible for the Ontario region. Prior to joining RBC Global Services in 1994, he held various senior positions in sales and sales management. Robert holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Western Ontario.
> Lori Bak
Lori is the publisher of the Canadian Investment Review and general manager of the custom and conference division at Rogers Media, Healthcare and Financial Publishing. She has worked at Rogers Media as a business journalist and editor for 16 years, most recently as editorial director of Rogers’ financial publications and past editor of Benefits Canada. Lori is an active member of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM).
> Thomas F. Ball
Tom is the chief investment officer at the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. In this role, he manages $5.9 billion in property and casualty insurance assets. He is chartered financial analyst with 24 years experience in the investment industry.
> Andrew F. Barth
Andy is research director, president and director of Capital International Research, Inc., in addition to being a director of Capital Guardian Trust Company and Capital Research and Management Company. His research responsibilities include nonbank financial service companies, government-sponsored enterprises, and mortgage and financial insurance companies. He also chairs the CGTC investment committee’s U.S. equity subcommittee. Andy joined Capital in 1985 after receiving his MBA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business.
> Chuck Bastyr
Chuck is vice-president and portfolio manager of international equities at Altamira. He is also head of Altamira’s global investment team and lead manager for a number of Altamira's funds that include, the Pooled EAFE Fund, Altamira Global Diversified Fund, and the Altamira European Equity Fund. He is also the co-manager of the Altamira Global Value Fund. Chuck has 13 years of investment experience and has been with Altamira since 1994. He holds undergraduate degrees from Austin Community College and the University of Minnesota. He also has an MBA from Edinburgh University and is a chartered financial analyst charterholder.

Fraser is director of sales at PanAgora Asset Management where he oversees the company’s marketing and sales effort worldwide. With 35 years of industry experience, Fraser has also held positions at LGT Asset Management, Royal Trust Corporation and Baring International Investments where he was president and director of the Canadian office. He holds a bachelor of commerce in economics and finance from Sir George William University and is a member of AIMR and AIMSE.
> Michael A. Butera
Michael is director, external portfolios for the pension investment division at Canada Post Corporation. In this role he is involved in virtually all areas of the fund’s investment activities. His responsibilities include investment policy and asset allocation, manager selection and structure, and monitoring fund performance. Prior to joining Canada Post, Michael was an asset management consultant for over thirteen years. He is a graduate of Brock University and has participated in a number of conferences addressing various groups regarding investment policy.
> Caroline Cakebread
Caroline is the editor of the Canadian Investment Review. She joined Rogers Media in May 2001. From 1998 to 2001, she was manager of investor education at the Toronto Stock Exchange. She holds an MA and a PhD in English from the University of Birmingham and a BA from the University of Toronto.
> Andrew Campbell
Andrew is chief executive officer of Nunavut Trust, and a board member and treasurer of Tradex Management Inc. and the Tradex Equity Fund. Previously, he was the manager of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Pension Fund and held various senior planning and financial positions at CMHC. He has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, where he specialized in finance and institutional investment management.
> Michael Campbell
Michael is manager, pension and employee funds for Imperial Oil Limited where he is responsible for investment strategy, plan funding and administration. Prior to joining Imperial Oil's pension group, Michael worked in the areas of corporate finance, pipeline operations, insurance, cash management, corporate acquisitions and rate regulation. He holds undergraduate and graduate business degrees from the University of Toronto.
> Bill Chinery
Bill is managing director at Barclays Global Investors where he is responsible for business development and client relationship activities for Canada. Prior to joining BGI, Bill spent 6 years with a quantitative management firm where he was involved in product development and portfolio management of various strategies. Prior to this role, he was the national practice leader and worldwide partner with the investment consulting practice of William M. Mercer. Professionally, Bill is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and fellow of the Society of Actuaries and is also a frequent speaker and author on various pension benefit and investment issues. He holds a bachelor of mathematics in actuarial science from the University of Waterloo.
> John Chisholm
John is executive vice-president and co-chief investment officer at Acadian Asset Management. Along with his key portfolio management role, he is responsible for the firm's quantitative valuation techniques, statistical models, and related areas. John has been extensively involved not only in the management of global equities for Acadian client portfolios, but also in the development and refinement of Acadian’s stock, industry, and country selection models. He is a graduate of the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
> Lynn A. Clark
Lynn is the vice-president, economic policy and strategic research at the Ontario Municipal Employees' Retirement System (OMERS). She is responsible for all aspects of investment policy, including corporate governance, performance evaluation and risk management reports, asset allocation policy reviews and economic and strategic research associated with investment policy decisions. Lynn holds an honours bachelor degree from Queen's University and a master's degree in economics from York University.

Chris is a relationship manager for Capital Guardian (Canada),Inc. with client relations and marketing responsibilities. Prior to joining Capital Guardian in 2001, he spent over five years as managing director for Russell/Mellon products and services in Canada, where he was responsible for relationship management, business development and operations. Before that, he was a manager of institutional fund accounting and an officer in the foreign exchange department at State Street Trust Company Canada. Chris earned his honours BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a chartered financial analyst.

Lee is senior client service manager at PanAgora Asset Management where he is responsible for several of the company’s client relationships. He joined PanAgora after spending 5 years as an investment officer with NISA Investment Advisors in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to joining NISA, Lee was an editor and marketing specialist with Bernan Associates in Washington, D.C. Lee holds an degree in literature and society from Brown University, an MBA from the University of Texas and he has received the CFA designation.
> Jamie Colliver
Jamie is partner and senior vice-president of Integra Global Advisors and heads the division of Integra Capital Management. Integra Global Advisors is a joint venture between Integra and world class investment management firms including Acadian Asset Management. Prior to joining Integra, Jamie was a founding partner, president and head of sales and distribution for a Canadian mutual fund company. Prior to that, he acted as managing director and global head of fixed income sales and marketing for Scotia Capital Markets in Toronto. Jamie holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Western Ontario and numerous industry designations.
> Stefan Cowell
Stefan is the senior portfolio analyst at the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta, assisting in the management of its $4 billion investment portfolio. He is also the vice-president of the Edmonton Society of Financial Analysts. Stefan holds the CFA designation and is currently completing his MBA from Queen's University.
> Susan G. Ezrati
Susan is chief investment officer, GM Subsidiaries. She joined General Motors Asset Management (GMAM) in 1988. Currently, Susan has overall responsibility for investment matters relating to four of GMAM’s principal clients which include GM Canada and Xerox Canada Inc. Over her 13-year career with GMAM, Susan's responsibilities have included managing investment programs for the international asset classes, setting strategy for the international investment unit, co-managing the Canadian pension plans and advising on numerous overseas pension plans. Susan joined the GM Corporation as an economist in 1982 from Rutgers University where she was an instructor of economics. She holds a PhD from Columbia University in economics, an MA from the University of Denver in international relations and a BA from Pomona College. Susan was awarded a CFA designation in 1992.
> Margaret Franklin
Margaret is managing director of Altamira's institutional business. She graduated with a BA in economics from McMaster University and has her CFA designation from the Association for Investment Management and Research. She is a member of the board of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts. Prior to joining Altamira, she was principal at Barclays Global Investors, where she was responsible for relationship development and marketing.
> Zev Frishman
Zev is currently director, international equities and portfolio analytics at the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Board. In this role he oversees Teachers’ external active equity managers, develops and manages in-house global equity portfolios and develops structured global equity products. He is also responsible for providing risk management and portfolio analytics to the active equities group. Before joining Teachers, Zev was senior investment advisor with the Workers Compensation Board of Alberta and senior manager, portfolio analysis with Alberta Treasury. He has also spent several years teaching various courses in finance and investments.
> Patrick Geach
Patrick is senior portfolio manager, fixed income for the Workers’ Compensation Board of British Columbia. Prior to joining the board, he held a number of roles including investment manager for the Public Trustee of B.C., director of research with the Credit Union Deposit Insurance Corporation of B.C, and senior manager of credit union regulation and director of examinations with the Financial Institutions Commission of B.C. Patrick is a CFA and a member of the Vancouver Society of Financial Analysts and AIMR.
> Harry Gibbs
Harry joined the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board as vice-president of investments in 1997, bringing his extensive experience in all aspects of pension fund investment management to the direction of the board's multi-billion dollar investment assets. Prior to this, he had spent a year as a senior consultant in the asset consulting group of Towers Perrin. Harry became part of the Towers Perrin team in October of 1996 upon his retirement from Air Canada following a successful 28-year career as president of the airline's pension investment division.
> Robyn Graham
Robyn is vice-president, institutional asset management for Altamira Management Ltd. Her responsibilities include marketing asset management services to clients and consultants across Canada, in addition to developing products and educational materials for institutional investors. Robyn has 15 years of experince with product development, relationship management, marketing and management. Robyn is a member of AIMR, AIMSE, CPBI, and Women in Capital Markets. She is an associate member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and the Canadian Association of Financial Planners, a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, a certified investment manager and financial planner.
> Bruce J. Grantier
Bruce is vice-president, pension assets at Scotiabank. In this role, he is responsible for supporting the management of the asset side of Scotiabank's pension funds. Bruce has a BASc from the University of Toronto, an MBA from York University and is a CFA charterholder. He is a member of FSCO's Pension Investment Advisory Committee, PIAC's Investment Practices Committee and is a Trustee of the Havergal College Foundation.
> Emilian Groch
Emilian is executive director at the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund Board (ATRF) where he is responsible for the board's operation and management. The board provides retirement benefits, services and asset management for 59,000 Alberta teachers and pensioners. Total plan assets exceed $2.3 billion. Emilian was Alberta’s superintendent of pensions from 1984 to 1994 and has worked in the pension industry for 25 years. He has an honours B.Sc. of applied mathematics in statistics and a certificate of employee benefits administration from the University of Alberta. He is a member of The City of Edmonton Investment Committee and the government relations committee of PIAC.
> Tom Gunn
Tom is senior vice-president, investments and chief investment officer of OMERS, the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System. OMERS is the largest public pension plan in Ontario in terms of individual participants and is the second largest in terms of assets ($34 billion). Previously, Tom was chief financial officer of Canada Trust and later chief investment officer of TD Trust. He is the president of the Pension Investment Association of Canada, a long-term member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and a past president of the Financial Executives Institute of Canada. Tom is a graduate of the University of Toronto and he has completed other advanced studies in Canada and the United Kingdom.
> Dr. Stanley W. Hamilton
Stan is the Philip H. White professor of urban land economics, and senior associate dean, faculty of commerce and business administration, University of British Columbia. He has had extensive teaching and research experience in the area of real estate analysis and valuation. His current research interests include the role of real estate in portfolios and pension governance and administration. Stan is presently the director of the Bureau of Asset Management (UBC) and the chair of the board of trustees of the UBC Faculty Pension Plan. He is also a trustee of CREIT, a diversified real estate investment trust in Canada. Stan is the author of several books, monographs and numerous articles relating to real estate markets, real estate valuation and financing.
> Reynald N. Harpin
Reynald is Alcan Inc.’s chief pension investment officer. In this role he supervises the management of Alcan’s pension funds totaling about C$11 billion worldwide. His experience in the investment field spans over 30 years, during which time he has worked as a security analyst, head of research and money manager in various investment organizations such as Caisse de dépôt, two investment management firms and pension funds. Reynald is a director of S.I.T.Q. Immobilier and of Ivanhoé Cambridge Inc., a member of the investment committees of the Desjardins Pension Fund and of the University of Québec Pension Fund. He has earned a bachelor of arts, a master in commerce and his CFA designation.
> Rob Heinkel
Rob is the PMF alumni professor of finance at UBC. He is the faculty supervisor for the UBC Portfolio Management Foundation and oversees investments for the UBC Faculty Pension Plan, the Healthcare Benefit Trust and the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust. Rob is a past-director of the UBC Bureau of Asset Management and currently sits on advisory boards for the BC Securities Commission and the BC Provincial Treasury. Rob received his PhD in finance from UC Berkeley in 1979 and his research interests span investment management and corporate finance.
> Geraldine M. James
Geri is a manager of relationship development at Barclays Global Investors where she is responsible for helping clients and prospective clients across Canada understand, implement, and monitor BGI’s investment strategies. Prior to joining BGI, Geri managed the investment practice of a major international consulting firm. She received her chartered financial analyst designation in 1995 and is a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts as well as the Association for Investment Management and Research. Geri holds a bachelor of arts in commerce and economics from the University of Toronto.
> Peter Jarvis
Peter is vice-president, fixed income and derivatives at OMERS, Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System. His responsibilities include day-to-day asset-mix rebalancing, cash and fixed income management and derivatives usage in all investment areas. With over 20 years experience in the financial industry, Peter’s previous roles have included senior portfolio manager, fixed income at TAL Investment Counsel and director of fixed income and trading for Scotia McLeod in England. A CFA and past president of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts, Peter is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with a BA in economics. He is also a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute.
> Graciela L. Kaminsky
Graciela is currently a professor of economics and international affairs at George Washington University. Prior to this, she was an assistant professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego and a staff economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She has been a consultant and visiting scholar at the IMF, the World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank. She has also been a consultant to the Banco de España and the Korean Center for International Finance and a visiting scholar to the Banco de Mexico and the Institute of International Economics, University of Stockholm. Her areas of research have included financial crises, contagion, herding behavior and the effects of financial liberalization. Graciela received her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
> Robert F. Kay
Bob is senior vice-president, investments at the Ontario Pension Board. As a member of the board’s investment committee, he is responsible for all aspects of managing the investment, custodial, securities lending, and banking activities of the $12 billion investment portfolio and related consulting assignments. His duties encompass contract negotiations for each area of fund manager mandates, performance criteria and fees. Bob has acted as a consultant to the World Bank and CIDA and presently serves as chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Ontario. He is a member of PIAC and ACPM.
> Maurice Levi
Since receiving his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago, Maurice has taught at several leading universities, and has published books and research articles in a wide range of scholarly journals. He has held teaching positions at MIT, the University of California, Berkeley, the London Business School, and the University of New South Wales. He has written five books in economics and international finance, several of which have been translated into a number of languages. His research has appeared in The American Economic Review, The Journal of Political Economy, The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Monetary Economics, and more than a dozen other scholarly journals.
> Dale Lockie
Dale is executive manager of pension investment at the University of Guelph. He is responsible for all aspects of the endowment and pension fund investments at the University. He is a past director of the Pension Investment Association of Canada and is a past member of PIAC’s membership committee. Dale currently sits on the board of directors of two venture capital corporations, and is the president of a private corporation, which is a subsidiary of the University of Guelph.
> Karen Luprypa
Karen is the director of product management for RBC Global Services’ benchmark investment analytics group. As a senior member of the investment analytics management team, she is responsible for the strategic planning and development of portfolio management products and services, including performance measurement, risk management, compliance monitoring, and commission recapture. Previously, she managed the investment program for Royal Bank and Royal Trust Pension Plans’ $4 billion dollars in pension assets. She has also gained experience in currency risk management and foreign currency options trading.
> Jacques Marleau
Jacques is director, financing, treasury and pension funds for the City of Montreal and secretary of the board of trustees for the city’s pension funds. He also acts as a director and officer of a number of corporations in which the City of Montreal’s pension funds have investment interests. Previously, he was responsible for budgeting and planning in the city’s finance department. He has also held the role of economist for the provincial government and the Bank of Canada.
> Richard McAloney
Richard is the CEO of the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations Pension Plan. Previously he was responsible for all investment, pension benefit, and treasury operations for the Province of Nova Scotia. He is also a director of the Pension Investment Association of Canada, director of the Association of Canadian Pension Management, and he was a founding director of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Richard holds the chartered financial analyst, certified internal auditor, and chartered accountant designations.
> John Milne
John is executive vice-president with Rogers Media, Healthcare and Financial Publishing. He is responsible for the company's financial services, third-party market and English-language medical titles in Canada and the United States. A former editor and publisher of Benefits Canada and the Canadian Investment Review, John holds an Honours BA from Trent University and an MA from York University.
> Tricia Moore
Tricia recently joined Rogers Media as conference manager. She brings to her position more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality and retail industries with an emphasis on special events planning, marketing and customer service evaluation. She is a graduate of Queen’s University.
> Kate Munday
Kate is the head of the global emerging markets equity team and chair of the global emerging policy team at Baring Asset Management. Most recently she has been responsible for the Indian market and the Baring Peacock Fund, an open-ended investment company investing in India. Prior to that, Kate worked with the Latin America equity team in Boston. Kate joined Baring Asset Management in early 1993 from HD International where she was a member of the Europe equity team. Kate previously worked with Kleinwort Benson Investment Management. She has an honours BA in history from Manchester University.
> Sandra Nuttall
Sandra is senior vice-president of AllianceBernstein where she is responsible for marketing and client servicing of the company’s clients in Canada. Prior to joining Alliance in 1996, Sandra was a senior consultant in the asset consulting group of Towers Perrin where she worked with clients on a variety of issues, including the development of investment policy, manager structure, and governance issues.
> Patrick O’Hearn
Patrick is senior vice-president at Acadian Asset Management where he shares the responsibility of working with prospective clients and consultants. With 13 years in the industry, he has extensive experience in investment services management, including global custody and institutional marketing. Prior to Acadian he was at State Street where he was responsible for managing worldwide sub-custodian banking relationships. Patrick is registered as a junior counseling officer with the Ontario Securities Commission in Canada.
> Randall O’Leary
Randall joined Baring Asset Management in 1998 where he is currently managing director, Canada. In this role he is responsible for all aspects of the firm's Canadian operations. Prior to joining Baring Asset Management, he was director of marketing for Seamark Asset Management. He also managed a number of specialty functions such as performance measurement and portfolio analytics at Royal Trust. Randall received his B.Comm. finance and honours BA in economics from St. Mary's University in Halifax and has completed graduate studies in international business with the Edinburgh Business School in Scotland.
> Paul E. Owens
Paul is plan manager and chief executive officer for the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Pension Plan. Prior to joining the CAAT Pension Plan in 1995, he spent 13 years at The Bank of Nova Scotia where, as director of pensions, he was responsible for the design and administration of the bank’s worldwide pension programs. Paul has made presentations, written articles, and has taught extensively in the areas of pensions and benefit design, administration and governance. He has an MBA from Queen’s University.
> Tim Pardee
Tim is regional vice-president for Western Canada at RBC Global Services, Institutional and Investor Services. In this role he is responsible for sales and relationship management for RBC Global Services' Western Canadian operations in Calgary and Vancouver. He has 15 years of experience within the pension industry, in a variety of progressive leadership positions. He has obtained a number of certificates of achievement in the trust and investment industries and holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario.
> Hal Parker
Hal is the investment officer of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Treasury. In this role he acts as administrator to the external investment managers that invest the funds of the Province's MasterTrust which includes the pension assets of the Island's civil servants, teachers and members of the legislative assembly. He also directly invests the funds of the province's Sinking Fund. A native of the province, he has three degrees including an MBA from Dalhousie University.
> Tom Phelps
Tom is chief economist at Trilon Financial Corporation where is responsible for Noranda Inc.’s pension plan investments. He has been responsible for the $1 billion pension fund for the past 11 years. He is a 31- year veteran at Noranda with experience in a wide variety of treasury roles.
> Steven Pisarkiewicz
Steven is chief investment officer of structured equity services at AllianceBernstein. Previously, he was managing director of financial advisors, managing director institutional services and senior portfolio manager for U.S. equities, all at AllianceBernstein. Prior to joining Bernstein, he was vice-president and senior consultant with SEI Corporation. Steven co-authored “Quantitative Tools in Equity Valuation and Portfolio Management: Applying the DDM,” which appeared in the textbook Applied Equity Valuation. He has a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Missouri and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
> Paul M. Pugh
Paul is currently chief investment officer, investment management division of Alberta Revenue. Previously, Paul was the president and director of PPM Fund Managers Canada Ltd. and PPM Real Estate Managers Canada Ltd. Prior to PPM he was senior vice-president of investments, Prudential Assurance Company. He has also held various senior positions at Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, Empire Life of Canada and Sun Life Assurance Co. He is a past president and director of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts. Paul’s designations include a B.Sc., MBA, FLMI and CFA.
> Roger A. Phillips
Roger is vice-president, pension funds, with Hydro One, where he is responsible for implementation, strategy, and investment policy. Prior to joining Hydro One, he led the investment function at OPSEU Pension Trust. Roger is a graduate of York University.
> André Robitaille
André is executive director of the University of Quebec's Pension Fund, with responsibility for overseeing the investment of the pension fund and the administration of the benefits. The fund has 8,200 plan members and assets of $1.5 billion. He is an active member of the International Pension Group, the Canadian Pension and Benefit Conference and the Pension Investment Association of Canada.
> Gerry Rocchi
Gerry is chief executive officer, Canada and managing director at Barclays Global Investors where he is responsible for the overall management of the company in Canada. In addition, he is a director of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada, and a member of the index advisory panel that advises Standard & Poor’s and the Toronto Stock Exchange on index construction. Prior to joining BGI in 1997, Gerry spent 16 years with Imperial Oil and Exxon, in a variety of financial management roles, including pension fund management. He received an MBA in finance and a BA in economics from the University of Toronto.
> K. Geert Rouwenhorst
Geert is professor of finance at the Yale School of Management and deputy director of the International Center for Finance at Yale, which he joined after receiving his PhD from the University of Rochester. Geert teaches courses in valuation and investment, international finance, and empirical research in finance. His research interests include the trade-off between risk and return in developed and emerging stock markets. His recent work examines global real estate markets, the pricing of international mutual funds, and the history of financial innovation. His articles have been published in The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Financial Economics, The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and The Journal of Portfolio Management.
> Michelle R. Savoy
Michelle is a senior vice-president of Capital Guardian (Canada), Inc. with client relations and marketing responsibilities. Prior to joining the organization in 1998, she spent almost two years as a vice-president and executive search consultant of Spencer Stuart & Associates, Inc. Prior to that, she spent eleven years at CIBC Wood Gundy Securities Inc. in a variety of institutional client relationship roles, most recently as managing director and global head of sales. Michelle earned a BBA in finance and marketing from the University of Ottawa.
> Larry Seager
Larry is director of pension investment at Kodak Canada Inc. He received his business degree from Ryerson in 1966 and is a certified management accountant. Larry began his career at Kodak in 1968, where he has held various accounting, marketing and management positions.
> Tracy Smith
Tracy is assistant editor, conferences for the healthcare and financial division of Rogers Media. Her responsibilities include the management of conference materials and development of the conference web sites. Tracy has an honours BA from McMaster University and a post-graduate diploma in journalism new media from Sheridan College.
> Ross N. Steeves
Ross is director, investments for the IWA – Forest Industry Pension Plan and for the IWA – Forest Industry LTD Plan. He joined the plan some eight years ago, following several years of corporate treasury and pension fund management experience. He is a graduate of both Mount Allison University and the University of Western Ontario, with degrees in mathematics and economics.
> Jeffrey S. Thomas
Jeffrey is a partner at the law offices of Borden Ladner Gervais where he practices international trade law. He is also chair of the firm’s international trade law practice group. Jeffrey has extensive experience in advising clients engaged in or affected by international trade negotiations, including NAFTA and the WTO and similar experience in the areas of foreign investment and private international law concerning investment including advice relating to the Investment Canada Act. He has a bachelor of laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and a master of laws from the University of Toronto. Jeffrey is the co-author of The New Rules of Global Trade: A Guide to the World Trade Organization.
> Michel Toupin
Michel is managing director of Laval University Pension Funds. Previously, he served as director, treasury operations, for the Quebec Minister of Finance and as an analyst at the Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Quebec. He is a member of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) and the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM).
> Terri Troy
Terri is manager of pension investments for the Royal Bank and Royal Trust pension plans. Her responsibilities include asset mix decisions, investment manager structures and manager monitoring, performance measurement and attribution, risk analytics, compliance monitoring, governance and the implementation of a defined contribution pension plan.
> Gretchen Van Riesen
Gretchen is the senior director, pensions and benefits policy at CIBC. Her responsibilities include developing strategic benefits policy and design, and reporting to the audit committee of the board on overall governance and fiduciary matters with respect to CIBC’s pension plans. With over 29 years in the pension and benefits industry, Gretchen is a past chair of the ACPM and outgoing chair of the its Advocacy and Government Relations Committee. She is also on the Pension and Benefits Advisory Committee of the Canadian Bankers Association, chair of the Pension and Benefits Policy Committee of the Board of Trade and a member of the Government and Industry Relations Committee of PIAC.
> Perry J. Vieth
Perry is director of fixed income investments at PanAgora Asset Management. In this role he directs the research and management of the firm’s fixed income strategies and oversees the currency management needs of clients who invest in global securities. As a member of PanAgora’s investment committee, he also provides valuable input into the role that fixed income securities and currencies play in investment portfolios. Prior to joining PanAgora, Perry was a senior vice-president at Fleet Investment Advisors in Boston where he managed fixed income portfolios for institutional clients. He holds a degree in accounting from Marquette University and a Juris Doctor from University of Notre Dame Law School.
> Donald Walcot
Don is chief investment officer of Bimcor Inc., a subsidiary of BCE Inc. He is a graduate of McGill University and has a master's degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario.
> Mark Watts
Mark relocated from London to Boston in 2000 to head Baring Asset Management's North American fixed income team. He is a member of the fixed income asset allocation team covering the US markets and chairs the core plus asset allocation team. Mark is also responsible for managing US domestic and global fixed mandates. Prior to moving to Boston, Mark focused on European debt and was responsible for managing clients domiciled in the Far East as well as French and Italian domiciled mutual funds. He is SFA-qualified, holds the International Securities Market Association diploma, the Securities Institute diploma, and is a member of the Securities Institute.
> Donald D. Weiss
Donald is the chairman and CEO of the Ontario Pension Board, which manages the Public Service Pension Plan in Ontario. This $12 billion fund has approximately 24,000 contributing members and 40,000 pensioners. He is the former executive director of the P.C. Ontario Fund and past president of Morguard Trust Company. Donald obtained his bachelor of commerce from the University of Alberta and his business career has focused on financial services, investment, banking, real estate finance, development and fundraising.
> Russ Wermers
Russ is an assistant professor of finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park. His research interests include the measurement and attribution of the performance of pension fund and mutual fund managers. He also studies the investment behavior of these managers, as well as the impact of their trades on stock markets. His papers have been published in The American Economic Review, The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and The Journal of Finance. His article on mutual fund and stock prices (Journal of Finance, 1999) won the New York Stock Exchange Award for the best paper on equity trading in 1995. Russ also consults for the pension fund and mutual fund industries.
> Paul Williams

Paul is vice-president of Rogers Media, Financial and Healthcare Publishing. He joined Maclean Hunter Publishing in 1989 as editor of Benefits Canada. He now heads the financial media group, which includes Benefits Canada, Canadian Investment Review, Avantages, Advisor's Edge, Objectif Conseiller, Advisor.ca, and Advisor Forum as well as the Canadian Pension Fund and Money Purchase Plan directories.
