He joined the firm in 1996 and is responsible for business development and client servicing activities in Canada. From 1993 to 1996, he was a vice-president and shareholder at T.A.L. Investment Counsel. From 1991 to 1993, he served as a senior account manager in the pension practice at Sun Life. He earned a B. Bruce Allen is the treasurer of the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta, responsible for managing its $4.4 billion investment portfolio. He has been with the WCB-Alberta since 1989 and has worked in the financial services sector for the past 25 years. Bruce holds the CFA designation and is a Chartered Accountant. Renée G. Arnold is vice-president, Canadian marketing, with Murray Johnstone. She is responsible for institutional and retail marketing and client servicing in Canada. She graduated from the University of Miami, Florida, with a B.A. in Fine Arts and Sciences and joined Murray Johnstone in 1984. Robert Baillie is regional vice-president of sales and relationship management at Royal Trust Global Securities Services (GSS), the custody arm of Royal Bank Financial Group. Prior to assuming responsibility for sales and relationship management in the Ontario region a year ago, Rob was director of business development at Royal Trust GSS from 1994 to 2000, dealing with major pension plan sponsors, insurance companies and international fund managers. Helen Bain is vice-president, externally managed assets for Air Canada's pension funds. She directs the management and deployment of approximately $5 billion of assets for the airline's four pension funds. Her responsibilities include the identification and selection of assets, markets, management style, and investment managers to use in the design of specialized manager structures. Lori Bak is the publisher of Canadian Investment Review. She has worked at Rogers Media as a business journalist and editor for 14 years, most recently as editorial director of Rogers' financial publications. Lori is an active member of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute (CPBI) and the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM). Kenneth F. Bancroft is Director of Investments for the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund Board. He implemented the Fund's investment structure, employing internal and external specialist managers for Canadian, US and EAFE equity mandates plus Canadian fixed income. Ken received his CFA designation in 1979 while at Richardson Securities Inc. in Winnipeg. At The Great-West Life Assurance Company he provided investment counsel to pension clients and served on the executive of the Winnipeg Society of Financial Analysts. Robert Bertram is executive vice-president, investments, at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, which provides pension services to 150,000 elementary and secondary school teachers and 72,000 retired teachers. The pension board manages the plan's assets that now exceed $70 billion and manages investments including stock market investments in Canada, the U.S. and other international countries, domestic fixed income investments, real estate and other special situations. M. Fraser Blakely is director of sales and marketing with PanAgora Asset Management, where he oversees the marketing and sales efforts worldwide. Prior to joining PanAgora, Fraser was responsible for client relationships and business development at Chancellor LOT Asset Management. He holds a B. Comm. in Economics and Finance from George Wilharn University. Charles Caiger is president and CEO of Canadian Pacific Investment Management Limited which manages approximately $6 billion in pensions assets for plans of the CP group of companies. Charles joined CP in 1984 following several years in the investment department at Royal Trust. Andrew Campbell is CEO of Nunavut Trust and a board member for the Tradex Management Inc. group of mutual funds. He has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, where he specialized in finance and institutional investment management. Andrew has held various senior financial positions at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Chris Caswell has been responsible for administering the $1.4 billion VIA Rail Canada Inc. Pension Fund since 1991. His other responsibilities include management of the corporation's financial assets. Prior to these investment responsibilities, Chris held various other financial management positions, including planning and budgeting, business analysis and project evaluation, accounting and product costing. William F. Chinery is head of client relationships and managing director at Barclays Global Investors. He is responsible for business development and client relationship activities for Canada. Professionally, Bill is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and is also a frequent speaker and author on various pension benefit and investment issues. He holds a B.Math in Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo. Michael Chwalka is senior vice-president with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Michael is responsible for defining the firm's strategy for institutional business in Canada. In addition, he focuses on building a strong market presence in the Canadian institutional and public and corporate pension fund sectors. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Michael was senior vice-president at Chase Fleming Asset Management and was responsible for institutional asset management sales and marketing. Lynn A. Clark is the vice-president, economic policy and strategic research at the Ontario Municipal Employees' Retirement System (OMERS). She is responsible for all aspects of investment policy, including corporate governance, performance evaluation and risk management reports, asset allocation policy reviews and economic and strategic research associated with investment policy decisionmaking. Lynn holds an Honours Bachelor degree from Queen's University and a Masters degree in Economics from York University. James Clunie is investment director and head of asset allocation with Murray Johnstone in Glasgow, Scotland. He graduated with an Honours in Mathematics and Statistics from Edinburgh University. He joined Murray Johnstone in 1989 as an analyst in the U.K. department, researching various market sectors and subsequently becoming a portfolio manager. He is an Associate of the Institute of Investment Management and Research, and a CFA. Lee E. Cohen is senior manager, client service, with PanAgora Asset Management, where he is responsible for several of the firm's client relationships. He joined PanAgora after spending five years as an investment officer with NISA Investment Advisors in St. Louis, Missouri. Lee holds a degree in Literature and Society from Brown University and an MBA from the University of Texas. Joshua D. Coval is an assistant professor of finance at the University of Michigan. He received his Ph.D. in Business Economics from the Anderson School at UCLA and his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago. His current research investigates the influence of trader psychological biases on the price formation process. His research has been published in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Political Economy, and the Journal of Corporate Finance. His research has also been featured in The Economist, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, and Money Magazine. Joshua currently teaches corporate and international finance to MBA and Ph.D. students. John Crocker is the chief investment officer of the Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). He oversees more than $18 billion invested in a diverse portfolio, including Canadian, American and international equities, Canadian and international fixed income, private equity and real estate. John is a B. Comm. graduate of McGill University and holds the CFA designation. He joined HOOPP in 1998 from Scotia Cassels Investment Counsel Limited, where he was chief investment officer. Rudy Dabideen is the director, investments for the $4.1 billion fund of the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Pension Plan (CAAT). He is a graduate of the University of Toronto. He is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), as well as a CFA. Rudy is currently chairman of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC), and is the past chair of the investment practices committee of PIAC. Mark A. Doyle is responsible for business development and client service at Barclays Global Investors Canada Limited. Prior to joining BGI in 2000, Mark worked for a large Canadian investment management firm, specializing in indexed and quantitative investment management services. Mark received his B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1984 and his MBA from the University of Toronto in 1992. Phil Dranse is assistant treasurer with Imperial Oil. His responsibilities include the management of a $2.5 billion defined benefit pension plan and a $250 million savings and defined contribution plan. Phil has held various technical, business, and financial roles with ExxonMobil and Imperial Oil in Canada, England, and the US, including three years managing Exxon's US$4 billion defined benefit pension plan. Margaret Franklin is managing director of Altamira's institutional business. She graduated with a B.A. in Economics from McMaster University and has her CFA designation from the Association for Investment Management and Research. She is a member of the board of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts. Prior to joining Altamira, she was principal at Barclays Global Investors, where she was responsible for relationship development and marketing. Rafik Gabriel is vice-president responsible for client development and servicing with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Prior to joining the firm in 1995, Mr. Gabriel was an investment consultant with the asset consulting group of Towers Perrin. He received his B.S. magna cum laude in Economics and Systems Science from the University of California, Los Angeles and his MBA from the University of Southern California. He has earned the CFA designation and is a member of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts. Robyn Graham is a vice-president with Altamira Investment Services Inc., responsible for institutional client relationship management and development. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Toronto and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, a Certified Investment Manager, and a Certified Financial Planner. Bruce J. Grantier is vice-president, pension assets with Scotiabank in Toronto. Bruce graduated from the University of Toronto in 1971 and from York University in 1974 with an MBA. He is a CFA charterholder. He is currently responsible for providing research and recommendations to Scotiabank's pension funds in all aspects of asset allocation and manager selection. Janet Greenwood is partner and director, investment services at Aurion Capital Management Inc., which manages institutional portfolios and the overall multi-manager investment program for the Shell Canada Pension Fund. She was formerly manager, investment research and administration for Shell Canada Pension Fund Management Inc. Her current responsibilities include the research and selection of asset classes, strategies and investment managers for Shell's defined benefit and defined contribution investment structure, including policy, fund governance and investment mandate oversight. Colin Gruending is manager, pension fund investments for the Enbridge Inc. group of companies. Based in Calgary, his responsibilities include the development and implementation of investment policy for the group's multiple defined benefit and capital accumulation retirement plan assets in both Canada and the U.S. Prior to joining Enbridge in 1999, Colin led the global investment management effort at Canadian Airlines. He holds the CA and CFA designations. Paul Halpern is the Toronto Stock Exchange professor of finance at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He is chair of the advisory board of the Canadian Investment Review and the director of the Capital Markets Institute at the University of Toronto. He received his Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago and has published research and applied papers for both academic and practitioner journals. Rob Heinkel is the faculty supervisor of the UBC Portfolio Management Foundation and the director of the UBC Bureau of Asset Management. He also serves as a trustee and the chair of the investments committees of the UBC Faculty Pension Plan and the Healthcare Benefit Trust. Rob is a director of the Association of Canadian Pension Management and chairman of the finance division in the UBC Faculty of Commerce. Rob received his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of California at Berkeley in 1979. Jim Hinks is director, pension assets for TransCanada PipeLines. The TransCanada pension plans include registered and non-registered defined benefit plans and a defined contribution plan. Jim has worked in corporate treasury, finance and investments for over 20 years with NOVA Corporation and TransCanada PipeLines. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst. Bob Kamp is director, investments for Telus Corporation. He is part of a group responsible for managing a broadly diversified portfolio of investments for the defined benefit plans of Telus. Prior to joining Telus, he spent 20 years in investment management and research with Alberta Treasury and Ontario Treasury. Bob holds a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Calgary and a Ph.D. in Economics from Carleton University. Andrew Karolyi is a professor of finance at Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University. He has also taught at the Swiss Banking Institute of the University of Zrich, Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Business at the University of Alberta and the Australian Graduate School of Management. Andrew received his B.A. (Honours) in Economics from McGill University in 1983 and worked at the Bank of Canada for several years in their research department. He subsequently completed study for his MBA and Ph.D. degrees in Finance at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. Irma Lamoureux is treasurer of the Workers' Compensation Board of British Columbia, a position she has held since 1994. She joined the board as investment manager in 1991, after 12 years in treasury positions in the private sector. She holds both a B.A. and an MBA from the University of British Columbia. Dan Langlois is the manager of pension investments for Canadian Airlines Pension Trust. He joined Canadian Airlines in 1999 as an analyst working in both the treasury and pension investment departments. Prior to his current role, he was a crude oil analyst with the Government of Alberta. He has over five years' experience in the investment industry, during which he completed his MBA in London, England. Dan is currently a candidate in the CFA program. Donald W. Lindsey is the first president and CEO of the University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation. He is also the chief investment officer. He began his career with the University of Virginia Investment Management Company, where he served initially as investment analyst and proceeded to become assistant director of investments, senior investment officer and director. He has taught in the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. He holds the CFA designation, and has also taught CFA exam preparation and other courses in Croatia, Romania, Japan, South Africa, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Dale Lockie is executive manager, pension investments, at the University of Guelph, where he has the overall responsibility for all aspects of the investments of the endowment and pension funds. Dale currently sits on the board of directors of two venture capital companies and is the president of a private corporation which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Guelph. Pierre Lussier is vice-president, strategic management of asset mix with CDP Global Asset Management. His mandate includes supervising a team of professionals whose management style focuses on value and which develops asset allocation strategies and manages a neutral portfolio of international indices. Pierre has an MBA in finance from the cole des Hautes tudes Commerciales, Universit de Montral's affiliated business school. Jacques Marleau is assistant director of the public works service of the City of Montreal and secretary of the board of trustees of the City pension funds. He also acts as a director and officer of a number of corporations in which the City of Montreal Pensions Funds has investment interests. Richard A. Meese is research officer, advanced strategies and research group and a managing director with Barclays Global Investors. Richard directs research and strategy on global currency products, and on securitized real estate products in the US. Prior to joining BGI in 1998, Dick was a professor of economic analysis and policy at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. Dick received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin. John Milne is senior vice-president and executive publisher with Rogers Media, Healthcare and Financial Publishing. He is responsible for the company's financial services, third-party market and English-language medical titles. A former editor and publisher of Benefits Canada and the Canadian Investment Review, Mr. Milne holds an Honours BA from Trent University and an MA from York University. Sue Mullin is a director of the Murray Johnstone Group with overall responsibility for the North American office. She completed project work for Merrill Lynch and joined the international investment division of London merchant bankers, N M Rothschild & Sons Ltd., where she was responsible for European marketing. In 1986 she moved to Chicago to join Kemper-Murray Johnstone International, where she was responsible for institutional marketing and client servicing. Sandra Nuttall is the president of Alliance Capital Management Canada Inc. She is responsible for marketing and client servicing of Alliance's clients in Canada. Prior to joining Alliance in 1996, Sandra was a senior consultant in the asset consulting group of Towers Perrin where she worked with clients on a variety of issues, including the development of investment policy, manager structure, and governance issues. Randall J.P. O'Leary is managing director, Canada, with Baring Asset Management. He is responsible for all aspects of the firm's Canadian operations. Randall received his B.Comm. in Finance and B.A. (Honours) in Economics from St. Mary's University in Halifax and is nearing completion of graduate studies in International Business with the Edinburgh Business School in Edinburgh, Scotland. Philip Olsson is managing director, private equity at Altamira Investment Services Inc. His mandate is to develop a suite of private equity products which leverage off Altamira's strengths, beginning with the Altamira Networked Economy Fund. Prior to his current position, Philip was managing director of Royal Bank Equity Partners Limited, the Royal Bank Financial Group's merchant banking unit. Philip holds B.A. and MBA degrees from Vanderbilt University and studied monetary economics at the London School of Economics. Carl Otto is chairman of the McGill University Pension Investment Board, a member of the Government of Alberta's investment operations committee, a member of the investment advisory group of the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta and a director of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board of Canada. He is also an advisor and management consultant for Carl Otto Associates Incorporated and president and CEO of IFPT Management Incorporated, the advisor to the International Finance Participation Trust of Canada. Carl is a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts and holds a Ph.D. in Law from Freiburg University in Germany. Edgar E. Peters is chief investment officer with PanAgora Asset Management, where he is responsible for monitoring the integrity of all of the firm's investment strategies and overseeing the management of the asset allocation team. Before joining PanAgora in 1985, Ed served as investment technology manager at Interactive Data Corporation. He is a graduate of Montclair State College and holds an MBA from Rutgers University. Tom Phelps is vice-president and chief economist at Noranda Inc. He has been responsible for the $1 billion pension fund for the past 10 years. He is a 30-year veteran at Noranda with experience in a wide variety of treasury roles. Roger A. Phillips is vice-president, pension fund, with Hydro One, where he is responsible for implementation, strategy, and investment policy. Prior to joining Hydro One, he led the investment function at OPSEU Pension Trust. Roger is a graduate of York University. José Placido is senior vice-president at Royal Trust Global Securities Services (GSS), with overall responsibility for Royal Bank Financial Group's custody arm. A graduate of McGill University, Jos has over 13 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to his current appointment in 2000, he held increasingly senior positions with Royal Trust GSS, including vice-president of relationship management and client service delivery, head of the global custody operation in London, U.K. and director of Royal Trust's custody services business in Montreal. Kevin Press is editor of BENEFITS CANADA magazine in Toronto. He joined the magazine in January 1999. Mr. Press has been working as a business journalist in Canada since 1989. He also sits on the Ontario Regional Council of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute, and chairs that organization's fundamentals committee. Paul M. Pugh is the chief investment officer in the investment management division of Alberta Treasury. Paul was president and director of PPM Fund Managers (Canada) Limited and PPM Real Estate Managers (Canada) Limited from 1993 to 1998. He was senior vice-president, investments, Prudential Assurance Co. of Canada from 1991 to 1993. Paul is a past president and director of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts. Clodagh Rohan is promotions manager for Canadian Investment Review. She joined the healthcare and financial publishing group at Rogers Media in 1999. In addition to her duties with Canadian Investment Review, Clodagh is responsible for the promotional activities of BENEFITS CANADA, Advisor's Edge, advisor.ca, Avantages, Canadian Pension Fund directories, Objectif Conseiller and Canadian Healthcare Manager. Adel Sarwat is president and CEO of the Public Sector Pension (PSP) Investment Board. Prior to joining PSP investments last year, Adel was vice-president, international stock markets at Caisse de Dpt et Placement du Qubec. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Cairo University, Egypt, a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from University of Montreal, a Master of Science degree in Economics from University of Montreal and an MBA in Finance from H.E.C. (University of Montreal). He also holds the CFA designation. Larry Seager is director of pension investment at Kodak Canada Inc. He received his business degree from Ryerson in 1966 and is a certified management accountant. Larry began his career at Kodak in 1968, where he has held various accounting, marketing and management positions. Kim Shannon is chief investment officer and senior vice-president, investments with Merrill Lynch. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner and leader of the large-cap Canadian equity research team with AMI Partners. Kim is a CFA, holds several degrees, including an MBA from the University of Toronto, and is past president of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts. Mary Spurr is manager, external managers, equities, with British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. She joined BCIMC (formerly the Ministry of Finance of B.C.) in 1995, and has taken on increasing responsibilities. In her current role, she manages a portfolio of external managers encompassing Canadian, U.S., and international mandates. Previously, she was a senior investment analyst at CMHC Pension Fund. Responsible for the company's global custody operation in London, U.K., Paul has over 12 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to his current appointment in 1999, he headed Royal Trust's global custody risk and control group in London. Jim Stothers is president and chief investment officer of the Ontario Electricity Pension Services Corporation, which is responsible for investment and benefits administration of the pension plans of the four successor companies to Ontario Hydro. Previously, he held a variety of investment research and portfolio management positions at Ontario Hydro, serving as director, pension fund from 1993 to 1999. Terri Troy is manager, pension investments for the Royal Bank and Royal Trust pension plans. Terri's responsibilities include asset mix decisions, investment manager structures and manager monitoring, performance measurement and attribution, risk analytics, compliance monitoring, and the implementation of a defined contribution pension plan. Gretchen Van Riesen is senior director, pensions and benefits policy at CIBC, where her role is to develop strategic policy and design, and report to the audit committee of the board on overall governance and fiduciary matters with respect to CIBC's pension plans. Gretchen is a past chair of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) and current chair of the advocacy and government relations committee of the ACPM. Ladis Vegh is vice-president, insurance for the ATCO Group in Calgary. He joined Canadian Utilities Limited (an ATCO subsidiary) in 1977, and has been involved with pension investments for over 25 years. Ladis is also on the pension or investment committees of three other funds. Stephen S. Waddell is national sales manager with Murray Johnstone International. completed a dual degree, BS in Engineering and BA in Liberal Arts, at the Pennsylvania State University in 1979. Prior to joining Murray Johnstone International in 1996, Stephen worked with Furman Selz Capital Management as an associate director. Donald Walcot is chief investment officer of Bimcor Inc., a subsidiary of BCE Inc. He is a graduate of McGill University and has an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. Mark Watts is head of North American fixed income with Baring Asset Management in Boston. He is currently responsible for U.S. Treasury strategy and for managing institutional fixed income assets against US domestic and global fixed income benchmarks. Mark joined Baring Asset Management in 1987, and the fixed income team in 1991. He holds the International Securities Market Association Diploma and is a member of the Securities Institute. Donald D. Weiss is the chairman and CEO of the Ontario Pension Board (OPB), which manages the public service pension plan in Ontario. This $12 billion fund has approximately 24,000 contributing members and 40,000 pensioners. He joined the OPB on January 1, 2001 and has over 25 years experience in the financial services and real estate industries in Canada. James M. White III is a member of the global asset allocation team with Baring Asset Management, where he is responsible for North American clients. He joined Baring Asset Management in London in 1986 from Bank of Boston, London. In 1992 he transferred to Baring Asset Management's Hong Kong office and was responsible for client service for the Southeast Asian and Australian client base. He holds an honours degree in Economics and History from the University of New Hampshire. Paul Williams is executive publisher of Rogers Media, Financial Publishing. He joined Rogers Media Inc. in 1989 as editor of Benefits Canada. In addition to his duties with Benefits Canada, he now heads up Rogers Media's financial media group which also includes Canadian Investment Review, Avantages, Advisor's Edge, Objectif Conseiller and advisor.ca, as well as the Canadian Pension Fund and Money Purchase Plan directories. Sandra L. Yeager is senior vice-president with Alliance Capital in New York. She is also a portfolio manager in the global/international equity group. Prior to portfolio management, she was a U.S. research analyst at Alliance Capital covering the advertising, broadcasting, cable, media, entertainment and publishing businesses. Before coming to Alliance Capital in 1990, Sandra was an analyst for Kidder, Peabody & Co. She received her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and English from Wellesley College and an MBA from Harvard University. |
