Rick Abbott
Rick oversees management of the Civic Employees Pension Plan, the Winnipeg Police Pension Plan and other assets exceeding $3.9 billion. He achieved his CFA designation in 1981 and is currently chairman of the Pension Investment Association of Canada. top

John Akkerman
John is a senior vice-president at AllianceBernstein. In this role he is responsible for business development and client servicing activities in
Canada. Prior to this, John held various senior positions at T.A.L. Investment Council, Sun Life and the Bank of Montreal. He has a degree in finance from Saint Mary’s University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. Robert Baillie
Robert is vice-president and Canadian head of sales and relationship management for RBC Global Services, Institutional & Investor Services (IIS). He is responsible for the growth and development of custody and related services, as well as the relationship management of the company's strategic clients throughout
Canada. Before taking on his current role, Robert was responsible for the company’s Ontario region. Prior to joining RBC Global Services in 1994, he held various senior positions in sales and sales management. Robert is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario. top

Helen Bain
As vice-president, pension investments, Helen directs the management and deployment of assets for Air
Canada's four pension funds. Her responsibilities include the identification and selection of assets, markets, management style, and investment managers to use in the design of specialized manager structures. She also participates in the development of the fund's tactical asset mix policy, directs the compliance monitoring process and serves as a company-appointed trustee of the Air Canada U.K. Pension Plan. top

Dexton Blackstock
Dexton is vice-president and director of State Street Global Markets Canada Inc. In addition to his responsibilities for the marketing and sales of transition management services to both fund sponsors and investment consultants, he is also involved in investment portfolio analysis and management of the brokerage's daily trading activities. Prior to joining State Street, Dexton was part of the institutional fixed income sales and trading team at a major broker/dealer; before that, he managed the fixed income department at CT Securities' discount brokerage. Dexton holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Calgary and is a CFA. top

Giselle Branget
Giselle joined Ontario Power Generation (OPG) as vice-president and treasurer in March 2000. She is responsible for OPG's treasury operations, investor relations, insurance, the OPG Pension Fund and OPG's nuclear waste and decommissioning funds. Since 1997, Giselle has held various positions with Owens Corning including chief financial officer of Integrex (an Owens Corning subsidiary) and vice-president, corporate development and strategic planning. Prior to that, she spent seven years as treasurer of John Labatt Limited. Giselle is a chartered accountant and a chartered financial analyst. top

Nick Bratt
Nick is a director with Lazard Asset Management, working on the firm's global thematic product. He began working in the investment field in 1973; prior to joining Lazard in 2003, he held various roles at Scudder including head of international portfolio management, head of the global equity group, and global chief investment officer. More recently, he was director of global products at Deustche. Nick attended Columbia University on a Fulbright scholarship, and holds a BA in economics from St. John's College of Oxford University. He is director of the Korean Society, advisory director of Maison Francaise, is fluent in French and reads German.  top

Andrew Campbell
Andrew is chief executive officer of Nunavut Trust, and a board member and treasurer of Tradex Management Inc. and the Tradex Equity Fund. Previously, he was the manager of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Pension Fund and held various senior planning and financial positions at CMHC. He has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, where he specialized in finance and institutional investment management. top

Michael Campbell
Michael is manager, pension and employee funds for Imperial Oil Limited where he is responsible for investment strategy, plan funding and administration. Prior to joining Imperial Oil’s pension group, Michael worked in the areas of corporate finance, pipeline operations, insurance, cash management, corporate acquisitions and rate regulation. He holds undergraduate and graduate business degrees from the

Chris Caswell
Chris has been responsible for administering the $1.2 billion VIA Rail
Canada pension fund since 1991. As director, investment and risk management, his other responsibilities include investment of the corporation's financial assets and directing corporate risk management activities. He also serves as the external member of the investment committee of another large Canadian pension fund. Chris is a CFA charterholder. top

Julie Cays
Julie has been director, external managers at HOOPP since September 2001. Before that she worked at CIBC in various roles, most recently as director, pension investments. Julie has a BA in economics from the
University of Waterloo and has her CFA designation. She is active in the Pension Investment Association of Canada as a member of the corporate governance committee, is chair of the Girl Guides of Canada's portfolio review committee and is a member of the investment advisory committee for the Salvation Army. top

Felix Chee
Felix is president and CEO of University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation. He was previously vice-president of business affairs at the
University of Toronto. Prior to joining the University of Toronto he held the positions of executive vice-president and chief investment officer at Manulife Financial and senior vice-president, corporate finance at Ontario Hydro Corporation. He has acted as director for the Manulife Bank of Canada and as a member of the board of governors for York University. Felix has an honours bachelor of technology, a masters of science and an MBA. top

Bill Chinery
Bill is responsible for business development and client relationship activities for
Canada at Barclays Global Investors (BGI). Prior to joining BGI, Bill spent six years with a quantitative management firm where he was involved in product development and portfolio management. Prior to this role, he was the national practice leader and worldwide partner with the Mercer Investment Consulting practice. Professionally, Bill is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He holds an honours B.Math in actuarial science from the University of Waterloo. top

John R. Chisholm is co-chief investment officer of Acadian Asset Management. In addition to actively managing Acadian portfolios, John is responsible for developing quantitative techniques to value markets and securities, and sets the direction for Acadian's investment process. He sits on the firm's four-member executive committee, responsible for the overall management of Acadian. top

John Clarke
John is the treasurer and assistant comptroller at Syncrude Canada Ltd. With the company since 1983, he has also held the roles of manager, treasury services and manager, information management. John is currently one of two western representatives on the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ board of directors. He has also been actively involved with the
Institute of Internal Auditors. John has an MBA from the University of Alberta and is a chartered accountant. top

Chris Cockburn
P. Chris Cockburn is vice-president and relationship manager for Capital Guardian (
Canada), Inc. with client relations and marketing responsibilities. Prior to joining the organization in 2001, he spent five and a half years as managing director for Russell/Mellon products and services in Canada, where he was responsible for relationship management, business development and operations. Before that, he spent two and a half years with State Street Trust Company Canada, where he started as a manager of institutional fund accounting and later served as an officer in the foreign exchange department. Mr. Cockburn earned his BBA (honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University and he holds the CFA designation. He is based in Toronto. top

Jamie Colliver
Jamie is partner at Integra Capital Management where he heads Integra Global Advisors and is responsible for the institutional marketing and business development of that division. Integra Global Advisors is a joint venture between Integra and several world-class investment management firms including Analytic Investors. With over 27 years experience in the financial services industry, Jamie was previously managing director and global head of fixed income sales and marketing for Scotia Capital Markets. He is a graduate of the

Steve Cotsman
Steve has held the position of managing director/CEO, CBC Pension Plan since 1995. The CBC Pension Plan is a defined benefit plan with $3.5 billion in assets. Prior to managing the pension plan, he was vice-president, finance and administration (CFO) of the CBC for nine years. Previous employment has included seven years at the Federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and five years at Public Works Canada. Steve has a BA in economics and an MBA in finance, both from the

Jean-François Courville
Jean-François is managing director and principal officer of State Street Global Markets and State Street Bank and Trust Company -
Canada branch. He is responsible for the financial trading and e-finance activities in Canada, including equity, fixed-income and foreign exchange trading and sales, transition management, money market trading, balance sheet management, as well as currency advisory and management services and the Global Link e-finance activities. Jean-François serves as a member of the Bank of Canada’s Foreign Exchange Committee. He holds a bachelor of commerce in finance and international business from McGill University and is a CFA. top

William Daley
Bill is a Director of Lazard Asset Management, LLC and is based in the firm's main office in
New York. He is responsible for Lazard's institutional clients in Canada, South Africa and for select clients in the United States. He has over 20 years of experience in the investment business. Bill received a BSFS from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, an MBA from New York University's Graduate School of Business Administration, and has received the CFA charter. top

John A. Formusa
John joined Hydro One in 1999 to manage the transition from the former Ontario Hydro Pension Plan to the Hydro One Pension Plan and Fund. He was appointed director of pension operations in June 2000. John has a law degree from
Osgoode Hall Law School and is a graduate of the University of Toronto. In his career, John has served as general counsel for Menkes Developments Inc. and senior counsel for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Canada. Before joining Hydro One, John was the manager of the Metropolitan Realty Fund (now the Clarica Life Realty Fund), an open-ended unitized pooled real estate investment fund for Canadian pension plans.top

Fred Francis
Fred is vice-president, securities finance and global products for RBC Global Services. He is responsible for the strategic direction, growth and profitability of asset optimization products, which include hedge fund services, tri-party repurchase, and securities lending and borrowing in 27 markets around the world. In addition to asset optimization, he is responsible for RBC Global Services' suite of investment analytics and trade management services for institutional investors. He is also the global head of treasury products. Fred holds degrees from Concordia and McGill universities, and a CA designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Lindsey Fuller
Lindsey is the chief investment officer at the Manitoba Superannuation Fund where he manages a team of nine in-house investment professionals managing over 80% of fund assets. He has held this role since 1984. Lindsey is a director at the Siam Recovery Fund and director of PIAC. He is a graduate of
University of Manitoba and is a CFA. top

Diane Fulton
Diane is the executive director, investments for the UBC Faculty Pension Plan, where she is responsible for the investment of $900 million in assets with 12 different external investment managers. She is a member of the investment committee of Insurance Corporation of B.C. (ICBC) and secretary-treasurer and member of the board of directors of PIAC. Diane has a B.Sc. in mathematics from the
University of Toronto and an MBA from York University. top

Bruce Grantier
Bruce is vice-president, pension assets at Scotiabank where he is responsible for research and recommendations on the asset side of Scotiabank pension plans. He is chair of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario's pension investment advisory committee, a member of PIAC's investment practices committee, and a member of the Toronto Archdiocese investment committee and Wellesley Central Health Corporation’s board and investment committee. Bruce has an MBA and is a CFA charterholder.

Janet Greenwood
Janet is managing partner at Aurion Capital Management Inc. with overall responsibilities for the investment solutions business, which includes management and plan governance of Shell Canada's DB and DC pension funds, investment program design and structure, asset mix, asset class and manager research, selection and ongoing performance analytics. Emilian Groch
Emilian joined the Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund Board (ATRF) in 1994 as executive director and is responsible for the operation and management of ATRF. He is a member of The City of Edmonton investment committee, chair of the Edmonton Firefighters' Supplementary Pension Plan committee, a member of the government relations committee of the Pension Investment Association of Canada and a director of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance. Emilian has a B.Sc. honours (applied mathematics in statistics) and a certificate of employee benefits administration from the

Jeff Grossman
Jeff is managing director of State Street Global Markets Canada. He is responsible for coordinating the business development and sales efforts for SSB. He formerly held a similar position at State Street’s securities lending unit where he was responsible for marketing the securities lending product to State Street’s global custody clients as well as prospective new clients. Jeff joined State Street in 1995 after three years at Fidelity Investments where he was senior vice-president responsible for sales of electronic trading and institutional clearing. Jeff received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Colgate University and an MBA from Pace University. top

Paul Halpern
Paul Halpern is a professor of finance and the Toronto Stock Exchange chair in capital markets at the Rotman School of Management,
University of Toronto. He is chair of the advisory board of the Canadian Investment Review and the associate director of the Capital Markets Institute at the University of Toronto. He received his PhD in finance from the University of Chicago and has published research and applied papers for both academic and practitioner journals. He has published a corporate finance textbook, Canadian Managerial Finance and is the editor of Financing Growth in Canada. top

Stanley Hamilton
Stanley Hamilton is the Philip H. White professor of urban land economics and senior associate dean, faculty of commerce and business administration,
University of British Columbia. He has had extensive teaching and research experience in the area of real estate analysis and valuation. His current research interests include the role of real estate in portfolios and pension governance and administration. Professor Hamilton is presently the director of the Bureau of Asset Management at UBC and the chair of the board of trustees of the UBC Faculty Pension Plan. He is also a trustee of CREIT, a real estate investment trust. Professor Hamilton is the author of several books, monographs and articles. top

Peter Harrison
Peter Harrison is a managing director and head of the Global Portfolios Group, based in
London, responsible for multi-market investment in JPMorgan Fleming and JF Asset Management. An employee since 1996, Peter was previously head of U.K. specialist funds. Prior to joining the firm Peter spent five years as a portfolio manager at Newton Investment Management and was responsible for balanced and specialist briefs. Prior to this, Peter worked for three years as an analyst at Schroder Investment Management. Peter holds a B.Sc. Rob Heinkel
Rob Heinkel is the PMF alumni professor of finance at the
University of British Columbia. He is the faculty supervisor for the UBC Portfolio Management Foundation and oversees investments for the UBC Faculty Pension Plan, the Healthcare Benefit Trust and the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust. Professor Heinkel is a past director of the UBC Bureau of Asset Management and currently sits on advisory boards for the B.C. Securities Commission and the B.C. Provincial Treasury. Professor Heinkel received his PhD in finance from UC Berkeley in 1979 and his research interests span investment management and corporate finance. top

Melissa Horwood
Melissa joined Rogers Media in 2002 as conference co-ordinator. She brings to her position wide-ranging organizational and project management skills including a diploma in marketing communications and advertising media. Bob Kamp
Bob is director of investments for TELUS Corp. He heads a group responsible for managing a broadly diversified portfolio of investments ($2.9 billion) for some of the defined benefits plans of the TELUS group of companies. Prior to joining TELUS in 1993, he spent 20 years in investment management and research with the Alberta Treasury and the Ontario Treasury.

Robert Kay
Bob is senior vice-president, investments at the Ontario Pension Board. As a member of the board’s investment committee, he is responsible for all aspects of managing the investment, custodial, securities lending, and banking activities of the $12 billion investment portfolio and related consulting assignments. His duties encompass contract negotiations for each area of fund manager mandates, performance criteria and fees. Bob has acted as a consultant to the World Bank and CIDA and presently serves as chairman of the investment advisory committee of the Public Guardian and Trustee of Ontario. He is a member of PIAC and ACPM.

Mark Kritzman
Mark is managing partner of Windham Capital Management Boston, a senior partner of State Street Associates, and research director of the AIMR Research Foundation. He also serves on the boards of the Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance and the International Securities Exchange, and on the editorial boards of Emerging Markets Review, the Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Alternative Investments, the Journal of Asset Management, the Journal of Derivatives, and the Journal of Investment Management. Mark has written numerous articles for academic and professional journals and is the author of six books including Puzzles of Finance and The Portable Financial Analyst.

Claire Kyle
Claire is senior manager of the Bank of Montreal’s pension fund. Prior to her current position, she worked in both the United States and Canada in a variety of fields, including private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory, economics and strategy, and pension fund management. She holds the CFA designation and is a past chair of the Pension Investment Association of Canada.

Nelson Lam
Nelson joined the City of
Montreal Pension Fund in the 2003 as investment officer. He is responsible for overseeing non-Canadian based assets and managers including alternative investments. Nelson previously worked in an investment consulting firm for almost five years in Montreal. He is a CFA charterholder. top

Denis Larose
Denis recently joined the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology pension plan (CAAT) as chief investment officer. He is an actuary who spent the last several years acting as an investment consultant to large public and private sector pension plans.
