YMG Capital Management Inc. was founded in 1983. Registered
with the Ontario Securities Commission, the firm has approximately
$13 billion in assets under management and employs 50 investment
professionals and support staff.
Established and known for providing disciplined quantitative strategies,
product innovation and dedication to a high level of client service,
the firm is one of the leading providers of active fixed income,
tactical asset allocation and non-cash investment management in
Canada.
Commencing as a provider of customized fixed income solutions to
the institutional investment community, one of YMG's first mandates
was a portfolio immunization for Massey Ferguson. Using the risk-controlled
strategies associated with portfolio immunization, YMG developed
several client relationships with some of Canada's largest insurance
companies providing solutions to their asset-liability requirements.
In 1992, YMG entered into a joint venture relationship with First
Quadrant out of Pasadena, California. First Quadrant is a quantitatively
oriented investment firm specializing in tactical asset allocation
and active currency management. They use rigorous research techniques
to identify fundamentally based drivers of capital market activity.
The majority of client accounts are developed using futures and
forwards to overlay cash market portfolios. First Quadrant manages
over (U.S.) $15 billion in assets, approximately $2 billion of which
are active currency mandates. In January of 1998, YMG became a publicly
listed company trading under the same ticker symbol. The company
is 55% owned by employees with the remaining float being held by
a large number of institutional and retail clients.
Investment Philosophy
We believe in fundamental investment concepts that rely on established
economic and financial valuation principles, because we feel that
fundamentally based processes best match the objectives of long
term investors. We bring these ideas together using proven quantitative
tools in order to serve each client's specific goals and risk tolerance.
