Around the world
It was our very first post-FPR Global Investment Conference—and
it was a big success, showcasing new ideas, solutions and opportunities
for international diversification. As leading delegates from the
Canadian pension industry gathered to share thoughts and ideas,
the stage was set to help plan sponsors step beyond the old 30%
constraint and into a new, more global context.
We travelled west for this year’s conference, spending two
days in the mountains at the Fairmont Banff Springs resort. While
the Rockies provided a stunning backdrop for the meeting, sights
were set on the world beyond Canada’s borders. This year,
emerging market investing came into its own, with several presentations
exploring new and developing markets around the globe. The emerging
economies in the developing world are leading to new challenges
and opportunities for plan sponsors.
Delegates also took lots of notes on fixed income as speakers presented
some new ideas on this vital global area. Governance and risk management
were also on this year’s agenda—and given today’s
shifting global economies, these topics are crucial to investment
success.
Throughout this year’s conference coverage, we’ve worked
to bring you the freshest and best ideas, as discussed at Banff.
And as Canadian plan sponsors set out on the long path to an even
bigger set of investment opportunities internationally, we hope
these ideas help them on their way.
